Windows 10 brings significant updates to the Audio stack but there are some builds of W10 that sound better than others. The best sounding W10 till date is the 18362.30 build. Yes, there's a lot of bloat in Windows 10 but all that can be stripped out later resulting in an even better sounding W10.

If I were you, and if this was a dedicated music player machine, I'd install a stripped down version of W10 on it. I found these stripped down builds to be perfect - https://www.sasnet.eu/2016/05/windows-lite-project.html?m=1. Create another partition on your machine, install this on that partition and take it for a spin. If you don't like it, delete the partition. You have nothing to lose!

Keith,

Does this stripped down version support Remote Desktop access?
My AudioPC is running on a headless machine on my audio rack which I Remote into.

Also is it possible to install a particular build version (18362.30 for instance)?

Regards

Oh great. Downloading a copy. I will give it a shot and see how it is. It's a 30-day trial, post which a Key would be needed.

Could my current Windows 10 copy be stripped to such levels?

How are you connecting? When I try to RDP to my machine and play something, it starts playing in the machine I am connecting from.

It says on the SasNET web page for that particular version [https://www.sasnet.eu/2019/05/windows-10-pro-rs6-v1903-build-1836230.html] that the RDP service is disabled. I take that to mean that OOB that service is disabled but if it's started Remote Desktop access should work.

If you can download that build, you can install it.

Yes. If you buy this - https://www.ntlite.com/
