Sub For Music

is the sonodyne slf 210 v2 comparable to a kef kube 2 as they cost similar, heard great things about sonodyne studio line

I think Sonodyne studio series has balanced connectors only. Can be a headache for home use unless RCA to XLR cables are easily available.

"classic RELs" are :

1. Strata 2. Storm 3. Stadium 4. Stentor 5. Studio

3-5 are very serious products

Today's RELs are way different (after the founder sold the welsh company) & a no match to the classics

MJ acoustics Subs are also built along the Old World Rel principle. So is a company called BKelec which was an OEM for REL. they do still sell direct.

REL was a different Sub whch was a sub Bass unit and not really a sub woofer. there are still a couple of really good "Music" subs around and the more affordable ones are the ones from Vandersteen and Martin Logan. Linn used to have a really good sealed box as well.

Actually making a sub is easier than making a speaker and if you can freeze on the specs for your sub vis-a-vis the speaker it is something you can get custom built, especially if you go ahead with an active crossover.

I run a pair of REL strata's with my bookshelves and am pretty happy with the integeration although it is a pain to get right .

Agree with arj, making a Sub cabinet is pretty easy, although the cabinet dimensions etc would be based on the T/S parameters of the Driver . Designing the cabinet is pretty simple and to get right
A sealed cabinet is a lot easier to build than a ported sub cabinet.

Again Integrating any sub into a stereo setup is a pain irrespective of which sub you have . It took me several weeks of fiddling to get it just right.

ANy thoughts on the above idea? We seem to have discussed everything but my original question..:D

The SPecs look good
FS at 22hz is very good.
It can be tuned lower in a ported cabinet.

However for music with material rarely going below 40hz. this driver should be more than adequate.

You would need to get yourself a good Plate amp or a Monoblock with a Active crossover

Saurabh, for that money the only option I can think of is a Definitive Technology. However I cannot think you will be happy with a sub in the long run especially with these entry level ones. You just need a meaty amplifier like a Odyssey Stratos to unleash the bass your Dynaudios are capable of. Krell 400xi is a lean sounding amp btw.

how about sunfire SDS-10. Avbl for 40K quoted price.. maybe will come over at 36k about.

any experience with this.

am looking at possible 2.1 combos too.

mpw

If you looking for any Sub priced till 50K, then u can move the Coin towards SVS basic series at Local Dealer in Coimbatore,Tamil Nadu( no need to bare the risk of Shipping or Import Duties or Shipping Cost)if you have other choice then try to pick the sealed one, Coz those sounds bright for Music

All the Best for your purchase
