Guys where can I find a decent quality subwoofer cable in or around Navi Mumbai? Not looking for expensive ones.
The AVR has a monoaural RCA output and the sub has dual RCA input.
Is such a cable available or a Y cable/ adaptor is also needed?

I do not know yet, where the sub can be placed; only after cable is available, I can experiment with it.
So should I buy a long cable to be on the safer side?

I do not prefer to buy online, need to get it quickly.
Please help..

-Santy

ps: Just to make sure what I am looking for is correct:

The sub can work with one cable connected to the left (L) from your AVR sub out. I bought mine from Designer Audio, Tardeo quite long back, i think for INR 1200 for a 6 ft cable and good quality RCA plug.

Placement of sub is subjective and depends on your room dynamics. Most of the time best sound is heard when placed in a corner diagonally, but again it depends. try placing it in different locations and test the sound. See where you hear the bass best without boom effect and then buy the cable accordingly. Check with "5.1 sound" in Nerul (google for complete address).

cheers

You need RCA male to RCA male cable right ? Just like we use in DVD player/DTH boxes ? Red/white/yellow types.

I will suggest using normal quality ones, it wont make much of difference in LFE as its SPDIF (digital output).

Or you really ready to spend

So you meant to say one or two inputs to the sub makes no difference?
I have got a good coaxial cable from Beresford unused, can I use it as audio cable?
It is only one metre long, that might be another issue.

yes, use sub as mono. from LFE of amp to WHITE female socket.

You can use it easily! ;)

simply put, the sub uses mono sound (well its a single speaker so obviously mono)

as for the coaxial cable, i am not really sure whether it can be used as a normal audio cable, never tried. may be audio gurus on this forum can help or as some member mentioned earlier on this forum - google baba is the best.. :D

I read that giving inputs to both L&R connectors on subwoofer will give a better output. Refer my post below.

http://www.hifivision.com/speakers/19791-subwoofer-connection-using-y-cable.html#post273504

I also read that many people didn't find much of improvement by connecting using a Y cable. I also tried giving inputs to both L&R by taking outputs from my dual subwoofer outputs (Onkyo 707 has got two subwoofer outputs) - but didn't find much of difference.

I ordered a SVS cable along with my sub and currently connected with one cable only.

In my opinion, you can use the cable you have, you need to change only if the length is not sufficient

thanks guys. I checked, one metre is definetly not sufficient, it hardly comes out of the rack. So, should I go for digital coax or normal RCA cable? In other words the sub output is line level or digital. Can anyone confirm?

@coolraghav
I think sub preout is analog. So for me a long mono RCA cable is what I must get, I suppose

Thanks to DarshanJ, he bought me a 5m MX RCA cable. That marks the end of my hunt for HT setup for now.. All set, just waiting for the velodyne to be delivered. :)

Thanks Spiro. There are many other things which needs to be burnt in; coz all were bought at the same time. It was like a buying spree. Thanks to the situation that my home minister was not around when all these stuff were bought. :D The DAC, the cables, the interconnects, speaker wires, the SW, the AVR all needs to be 'burnt' in.

BTW I am home alone from Monday and there will be nobody between me and my A/V setup for next 3 weeks. :yahoo: All are Welcomed.

Hi guys,

till now I was using a generic sub cable but I've had to relocate my sub and hence need a new longer cable.

I'm looking at the 3mtr Qed Reference subwoofer cable. Anyone has any experience with that one or any other expensive sub woofer cable.

Does a more expensive cable actually make a difference to the quality of Bass ?

Regards,

Rana

I have a same problem and i have tried red, yellow, white type RCA cable and it is not working..Is this mandatory to get specialized subwoofer cable or simple RCA should work? If yes, can you tell me why I am not able to get bass?(RCA cable is working fine with TV)

Simple RCA cable is enough. Which AVR and sub are you having? Does the sub has one input or two? Even if it has two, it is sufficient to connect the cable to one (mostly white). Did you try speaker level in, just to test if the sub is ok?

Hello Shanty

Apologies for butting in. But where/how did you acquire Gatorized Caiman DAC? If you can share the information I/we will be much obliged and benefited
