Subwoofer cable @ local shops

Simple RCA cable is enough. Which AVR and sub are you having? Does the sub has one input or two? Even if it has two, it is sufficient to connect the cable to one (mostly white). Did you try speaker level in, just to test if the sub is ok?
thanks for the reply..
I have yamaha 1065 (7.2 system)and pioneer sw8 sub(component of sp-pk21bs)
sub has 2 inputs..
receiver has 2 sub outputs( 1 is optional)
I tested sub with red wire(not tried white one) and sub did not have signals..but i noticed that with loose connection, sub was vibrating..could not figure out ahy?but sub has its light on and its vibrating so its not completely kaput for sure..
I will try white wire and see what happens...
anything else i need to set for?
i have set sub vol to half and crossover freq to full..and kept it 0 degree..
not aware anything specific to be done in AVR settings..

You can test your sub manually. For this connect one end of RCA cable to the sub and touch the other end of the cable using wet finger. You should hear a thump sound. Or you can send test tone from the AVR.

thank you sir..
i tried it manually and sent test tone..no sound...
does that mean that my sub is not working?
my sub immediately switches on by ON switch..do not get ON on its own when kept to auto mode..so I suppose sub is not getting signals..Do I have to configure in AVR? i don't know if it requires any specific settings..I set LFE output to sub in speaker setup menu manually...(options are sub, fronts and both..)
i get vibrations in my sub when i connect RCA cable very LOOSELY with sub..there is definitely thumping continuous sound..but even with this loose connection, test tone is not appreciated!!!
my sub has 2 RCA inputs..
@santy, even white wire is not working..
do I need a good single RCA cable? Y splitter? or worry about sub?
any help is appreciated..

Hi Santy,

Our dealer we both got our velodynes from had the following cables (straight ones, no Y) - i was told that the regular co-axial cable might will not have the same conductance as the subwoofer ones.

1. 5m brand1 cable - 2100 Rs (sorry dont remember the brands - u could call him to check). This one also had a ground wire.

2. 5m brand2 cable - 1100 Rs (no ground wire_

3. 5m unbranded cable - 600Rs - they used this in the demo setup room and he gave me this and am using it since few days, it is working out ok so far.

He might be able to ship them free of shipping cost hopefully, as you got the SW from him.

cheers

Have you activated Sub in AVR?What is the level?Crossover?
I already stated that I set LFE output to sub..also tried "sub and fronts" and "both" options..crossover 80Hz..
I don't know any other method to activate sub..If any please let me know..
Now I set sub level at +10 db as you said but in vain..
you said good RCA cable..how good?
will this suffice?
Mediabridge Ultra Series - Dual Shielded Subwoofer Cable - RCA to RCA Gold Plat | eBay
If yes, which is the brand to go for?QED, mediabridge or something else?
or any cheaper options are available?
Don't take as an offence, I seriously do not know which cable to be used...
I used RCA cables supplied with STB and DVD player..

Just making sure that you are using the AVR in 5.1 mode and not the stereo mode since you have connected the sub via LFE port.
+10db to an LFE port is too high and can damage the sub once it actually starts receiving the signal.

Check this. Its a digital cable but many believe it is better than RCA especially for longer distances.

I have tried all modes available in AVR including 2 ch stereo, 7 ch stereo, neural surround, neo 6 cinema, plII movies, music..nothing left..
did +10db as spiro said.. will reduce it to 0 db again..

I cannot understand how come this bloody rat came into our specklessly maintained home; first time in several years.
It has gnawed off my MX subwoofer cable, power cables of DTH and HDD, couple of speaker wires.
Subwoofer cable was cut at 90% of the length so I decided to fuse the plug after chopping the cable.
But I noticed its core was way too thin, just about the thickness of a small safety pin.
I soldered the plug and used it but somehow I could feel the details are lost. Psychologically too I am not happy.

Planning to upgrade, looking at the DAC and Chord Chrimson plus subwoofer cables. They cost Rs. 1200 and Rs. 2600 respectively.
At more than double the cost, is the Chord justified compared to the DAC? Can anyone who heard them give me suggestions? Or any other alternative at this budget?

ps: I killed the rat next morning.:p

Actually they are told to be with kittu, our PETA and blue cross activist, if they want to live safe.. They are still on the way to Bengaluru. hihi

What was suggested earlier will surely work but this one is 3 times more expensive. :D
It is definitely working fine..grateful to you..
One reputed forum member told me that QED does not manufacture cables by themselves..Thats why I asked you a reason for choosing costlier option...
