Hello friends,

Well I need some help and guidance . I have a 2.0 stereo setup : Marantz PM 6004 with KEFq300 . Sounds wonderful musically no doubt. Now the situation, I use this system for watching movies too but chose a stereo setup as music is my first priority and movies second but still since my wife is a movie buff, we do watch a lot of hollywood movies, action flicks, sci-fi's etc. and during those events, I need a little more low end from the system. I want a subwoofer addition to this system. Now the questions is ,my budget is around 20K for a sub as I have already spent a fortune on this stereo setup and building my music/blu ray collection , so :

1. Which sub to go for ?
2. How can I connect it to PM6004, considering it doesn't have a pre out. I read a post about bass management in this forum , found it quite informative, is that the way to go ?
3. Will PM6004 be able to take care of the subwoofer ( not sure how to phrase this query, what I meant is do sub's suck power from the amp and if so will this amp be able to drive it or should I go for PM7004 as an upgrade ?)

Please help.

20k is good.
many subs are i the bracjet
wharfe,astonia,polk,sonodyne roar..

do your marantz system has a sub out...u mentioned not having sub pre out..but do it have a sub out i mean at speaker level..
then you can try high level to line level converter in the chain...1000 Rs price...
well i dont have any first hand exp on the end result.
off course some thing in betwen the chain is not good....but in the present sceene..you can use it.it works 100 %.
you google a litle about it.

Hi,

I think you can easily connect your sub to the CD-R out ! It would work, most subs have an in built active crossover.
Using a high level to low level converters is not the ideal way, but a viable option.

Most subwoofers have speaker level inputs, so you can connect the sub to the B speaker connections on your Marantz. The sub should have a crossover knob and level knob on the back panel, both of which will come in handy when blending the sub to your speakers.

Turn the crossover knob up until the subwoofer takes over where your Kef speakers naturally roll off (between 40-50Hz). Then adjust the level (gain) knob so that the sub and both speakers are equally loud at the blend point.

If you have a SPL meter, it will make the blending easier. Otherwise do the best you can by ear (trial and error).

Aren't those outputs at a fixed level, since they're intended to be used as record outs? In that case, they'll be outputting the same level all the time (i.e., when you adjust the volume knob, subwoofer level won't change to match speaker level).

I am not sure, you might be right. In that case you'll have to get up and change the volume of the sub whenever you want to increase/decrease the volume.
Using a high->low level converter will be a better fit.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
