Friends,

I am moving to my new home soon where I have tried to make a dedicated Home theatre room. It's not a large room but roughly a 11 x 12 ft room. As of now I just have a Led tv to put in but am making all provisions of electrical fittings etc. for adding a projector, AVR, 5.1 speakers gradually.

Now my question. My friend is in US currently and is planning to be back to India soon with his family. I am planning to get an AVR from there. Want your inputs and advice on following:

1. My usage of AVR would be 70% movies, series and balance 30% for music, so you which brand and model would you suggest.
2. My budget is around 35k and I have zeroed in on Yamaha Rx-479.
3. Kindly also suggest whether it makes sense to get an AVR from US? Whether any warranties would be applicable on such AVR in India?
4. In future which projector, speakers would go well with this AVR or any other AVR which you suggest?

Mods, sorry if this is a repeat question. If that's the case please guide me accordingly.

Would wait for your advice and guidance.

Thanks.

Yamaha Rx-479 is not yet available in India and YES..this is a very good option.
AFAIK..warranty is not available for purchases made abroad...atleast for Yamaha products. And I am sure you must be knowing that you have to get a 120V power supply (step down transformer) to use your AVR.
Since you dont have options for audition ,,you will have to be dependent on other's ears(reviews) and going by great reviews you can also consider Sony STR-DN1060 ($525) or last year model STR-DN1050($325). It was Whathifi product of the year 2014.

This model is also not available in India.AVRs are damn cheap in USA and it makes sense to get them from there even though you lose warranty and need 120V supply.

Moving to speakers,I think a satellite speaker based package will be more suitable considering your room size.Let the senior FM cast their opinion about these. In the meantime check speaker section at HifiMart.com. You may get some good packages.
All the best!

As 20Khz has suggested, AVR are very cheap in US.. Try to get dual voltage AVR so that you don't have to spend on step down transformer here...

If you are not to keen on 4K resolution (or) dolby atmos, you can look for a yr/2 yrs old model AVR.. Good chances that you may get a good mid-range AVR than Yamaha 479 series (entry level) series..

Keep checking AVR in amazon.com. Consider Pioneer & Onkyo models..
