I've been using the LG CX for about a month now and pretty awed at the black levels everyday, so much that, I don't watch tv during the day anymore. I have to wait till at least 7pm before I can get my room pitch black with all lights off.

Although, there is one issue with my living room, all walls are white at the moment. So, even when there is a supposedly full black scene with a little bit of white text/image, it brightens up the whole room and essentially gets the light to reflect off the walls and onto the wall behind the OLED tv, thereby marking the boundaries of the tv obvious which is slightly off-putting with respect to immersiveness.

Been toying around with the idea of somehow getting my wall black. But need to be reasonable as well as to how much of an impact it would make to the living room. I initially thought of getting black wallpaper or black velvet cloth for a trial run but I haven't gotten to it yet.

Right now, we're going through a house painting session and am willing to just paint my wall black for a trial run and then switch it later on if it's not suitable or something.

Does anyone have any experience with respect to good paints? Should I go for just black or is dark grey enough?

A bigger problem than light/dark paint is the reflectivity of the light. Even if you get the whole room black, if it's smooth, it will reflect light. The rougher/matte the surface is, the less light will be reflected. If you go for paint, make sure to select a paint which is of the rougher variety. So traditional good paint will actually be a bad choice. Also, go as dark as possible. Also, if possible get the ceiling painted black as well. It looks cool, and there will be a lot less light reflected from there.

The ideal solution would be to get black 2.0 or black 3.0 paint imported. Unfortunately, they seem out of stock. But you can get any acrylic paint as they tend to be a bit more rougher and a double or triple coat of them will still work very well.

The tv is in my living room, so I guess painting the ceiling black is a no-go. Would be really hard to convince the family as well.
Let me checkout the textured stuff.

My only requirement is that I should not be able to differentiate between the wall and the boundaries of the tv during a pitch black room screening.

Also wondering if the paint thing won't make much of a difference then I might have to just go ahead with white paint itself and then get a black velvet curtain or something that can be removed during the day. No point in painting the wall black and losing out on ambient brightness during the day if it doesn't serve its purpose during night time watching.

although it is complete offtopic, but is your family okay with a complete dark black wall colour?

I have recently completed painting in my home and I initially planned to have a dark shade on wall where TV will be installed, but they said it should match colour scheme of rest of home i.e. light yellowish shade(nectar/apricot).

Since dark colour was rejected now and projector screen installation was also not approved, I thought of applying a HD colour(of yellow shade) on a wall, so, that it can be used as a screen, but everyone wanted identical shade on all walls.

So, hoping everything is sorted in your case.

Haha, they technically didn't approve of it in the beginning. Black is a very bold move. But I did a little more research and looked at photos of some interiors done with black walls. Apparently, you have freedom to make just one wall black, that's it. Anything more and it'll look hideous. But even this, you'll need to be able to pull it off with contrasting bright elements. I have a few canvas sketches and bright frames that I plan on using that I hope will add in the required contrast.

And that's why I wanted to go the black wallpaper route to have a trial run but I don't think it'll be as seamless as black/dark grey paint.
Right now, I'm willing to try it out as an experiment and then repaint my wall if it doesn't look right.
