Hi All,
Anyone has build symasym? I planning to buy a set for stereo. It has got a very good review. I want try a DIY amplifier. Maura penasa's My Ref c and this symasym i have chosen. I mailed Maura regarding his Evolution model. But I got a very negative reply, though I am very much happy a great man replied to my mail. And I was searching about some other models which has got very good reception. I end up with symasym. I believe it would be good but I studied it needs lot of tweaking to get a good result. Anyway both My Ref c and symasym may have differnt output. But both praised by DIYers from different part of the world. Anyone in India has got symasym? I think linuxguru has got one. Please post your experience/suggestions.

Thanks
Badri

Hi,
I have never exchanged any mail with Maura penasa's,but most of the members of Diyaudio are very arrogant.I visit that forum regularly but rarely make any post.I prefer Audiokarma over diyaudio.

Regards,
Sachin

He's basically an italian. I have read some of his posts and his english doesnt come off very well, maybe thats the reason he sounded negative.

He replied to me mentioning he completely stopped doing open DIY projects. He didnt give harsh or rude reply. Its my mistake, I should not have used the word negative. Sorry.

Someone over diyaudio commented that people are trying to make a rolls royce out of a LM3886 chip . Whatever be the implementation a LM3886 cannot be a rolls royce for sure . I have a few LM3886 and 4780 amps built from various circuits , but I prefer them for listening to computer music or for casual listening .
While that is the case , building an amp from discrete components is going to be really hard as well .. getting genuine transistors and driver transistors is really an uphill task and if you going to look for the Toshiba or ON semi components ... so until then a lm3886 is a better bet .

The tricky part is making a BMW M3 out of the LM3886 - a Rolls is easy, but not really desirable. The MyRef Rev E/FE is a good approximation to the M3 - tight and taut mid-bass dynamics, palpable and immersive sound-stage, forward presentation.

Any version of the MyRef generally trounces the Symasym and most discrete amps on sonics - the only reason left for a discrete amp is higher power and deep bass definition.

BTW, it's probably easier to get authentic Toshiba and Hitachi power/driver BJTs in Mumbai/B'lore than authentic LM3886TFs, but your mileage may vary. Authentic parts are generally available from Ebay sellers in Singapore and the US, if you're willing to pay the shipping mark-up.
