Hi,

It's been a while since I have been active here, as work got the better of me and took me away from all activities hi-fi. Now I am in a bit of a dilemma.

Coming to the point. I am genuinely struggling to move within Synology, but don't want to make a regrettable decision. Since 2016, I have had the DS916+, which at that time seemed best suited for multimedia. It has served me well, to be honest, but age has certainly slowed its wheels. Moving on to a DS1525+ would have been a no-brainer for me, but Synology has made that difficult. One, restricting me to its own brand of HDDs; two, the hardware isn't a massive upgrade. Already, Synology is expensive in Mumbai, compared to the West. This prompted me to look at Terramaster F6-424 Max and F4-424 Pro. They seem to be regarded very well for hardware, which helps, given the media size and quality expectations. I was wondering if anyone here has experience with Terramaster NAS and their after-sales service. Let me know what you think.

While DS916+ will be there for backup, etc., I want to make this next one my main go-to for entertainment, downloading, etc. I do not have any complex business needs like hosting, mail server... I have tons and tons of movies, music and books. If I do make this shift, will Synology and Terramaster be able to talk to each other, maybe not intimately and seamlessly, just for quick transfers and access? Or is there wisdom in staying within the Synology fold?

Synology, through EBM in Mumbai, has given me good service. They are quoting Rs. 63,000 for 1525+. Synology HAT3310-16T 16TB, Rs. 29000, Enterprise series HDD Rs. 52,000 and 63,000 for 16TB and 20TB respectively.

Any suggestions or a soft push in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Regards
