Hi
I am a little confused (not much knowledge in systems ),
I have a genelec 8030B , marantz 5008 AV receiver (genelec guys told me to go for it ), and project carbon TT . I mostly listen to music 70% and movies 30% . my music is thru my TT and thru apple TV. I have a good CD collection so might go in for a CD player not yet decided.(you can also help me out in this to decide). My confusion is, should I give away my AV receiver and go in for a pre amph. to get a better sound for music . i would be watching movies using my system, I would not go in for a 5.1 system as my 2 genelec speakers are too good, will be going in for a genelec sub still not yet decided which one. thanks for your help in advance.

Marantz is a good avr for music too. If you go for a preamp, you will have to add a power amp too. It is better to use your avr for music and add a sub incase the bass is not enough.

Genelac 8030 is Powered Speaker, he wouldn't need a Power Amp.

@OP you'd need a Preamplifier ideally with XLR outputs. You could look at Tube Preamp like Schiit Freya or SS preamp like Emotiva stealth dc 1 etc. A Preamplifier with Extra set of preouts or dedicated SUB out with preferably remote control will be ideal. Do you have a dedicated phono preamp? If not look for preamp with Phono stage as well.

I haven't listened to Schiit Freya but to its cheaper sibling Saga and I was pretty impressed. Emotiva stealth dc 1 has a variety of digital inputs, decent DAC, XLR & RCA out with Remote control & it is a decent preamp/DAC, you'd have to buy Apple TV 3rd Gen with optical out for Airplay support or you can connect PC with iTunes to USB input on Emotiva stealth.

Thanks , Genelec is an active speaker so I don't need a power amp.
