TANNOY WESTMINSTER HW LOUDSPEAKERS | eBay

One can dream :)

I would love to hear them :clapping:

9500 quid!!!!!!!!!

What kind of amplification do these wee speakers require?

These are installed in Surat.
The dealer these has ASR as his amplifier. You may go & listen to it - the Front End is MSB - USA.
However, The Lars from Sweden worked very well with it - that would be a nice option to consider - budget permitting.
Another option would be Thrax from Bulgaria - powerful product - excellent control.
S.E. Asia generally goes with Esoteric - but I never liked that sound.

There is a lovely tube [amplifier] maker in Taiwan - Jasmine Audio - this too will work well with the Tannoys...

:licklips:

I would be happy if i just had the room to put these in !!
But always wanted some good old Tannoys at some point....

Interesting;

Acoustic Revive - RTP/4 & Power Cords are in use;
Same what I have & used - now packed & stored - interested in selling;

But to get back tot he speaker - have any of you heard the speaker ?
Do you like it ? Sound i.e

Would love to know;
I have heard it 3 + times in different set ups & it has never 'tickeled' me;;;:mad:

The tannoys fall firmly into the coloured category in speakers hence can provoke different reactions ..Bhagwan, i would not be surprised if this is not exactly to your taste..so can understand your post :)

I have heard them at the Taiwan audio show some years ago.

The speakers are easy to drive and high efficiency. Most amps will drive these to Very high sound levels.

Yesw, the sound has its 'Flavour" but then, sadly almost EVERY Hi Fi Component now has its 'House sound ' ... no ??

House sound is 'required'
Else we would all be buying Studio Monitors;
The Question is - does this colour - excite you ?
That is important...
I does not do anything for me;;sad...:sad:

I have never heard them, although they are one of the brands of speakers I wish I had experience with. However, so saying, I firmly fall in the "neutral" camp and therefore feel in the long run they may not be my cup of tea.

Staxx, the tonnoy's are definitely not neutral... very, very coloured....

And I too, like you and Bhagwan, like neutral gear.... however, the tannoy sound is a very nice colouration.... personally, i could live with it.

for now though, I have speakers that I have not seen being beat for neutrality, detail, dynamic, PRAT and SOUL.

Thing to do is contact the guy :) Say if ever you need a house sitter when you go on Holiday .. :)

:lol:

Jim smith is another guy i really like and his system is here ..he uses Canterburys

But the Tannoy I would really like to own is here

Couldn't help exclaim a sound that sounds erriely similar to O' banjo!

@arj: i would love to own 'em too!

Thanks for the link to that interesting site Arj. If I ever had these speakers there would be no placement issues....they would just about fit from one wall to the opposite wall !! No choice!

Malvai, what speakers do you have that you refer to in your post above please?

:lol:
And the Couch inside the speaker ;)

On a more serious note, these can be placed closer to walls as the walls reinforce the horn..but of course has to be very carefully done.
RHR LIMITED EDITION
Tannoy decided to honor its principal mentor and now retired Chief Engineer in 1986 by asking him to
design a period cabinet with a traditional rear folded horn. This project was completed by Ronnie and
launched as the RHR Limited Edition. Only 111 pairs were made and were actively sought around the
world. In response to overwhelming demand a further small quantity were produced with subtle
appearance design characteristics and named the RHR Special Limited Edition. They change hands now for
a premium. Although Ronnie had passed retirement age he was keen to maintain a place in the Tannoy
Design Team. He regarded it as a special honor to be able to play a leading role in the cabinet design
of the Canterbury 15 and Canterbury 12.

Ronnie passed away peacefully in December 1990 after an illness in which he showed the same practical
fortitude and great strength of character that he had brought to the whole Tannoy team over more than
40 years service with the Company.

In 1989 the pace of Dual Concentric innovation increased considerably. The two magnet system approach
pioneered in the 2008 was carried a stage further with the introduction of Waveguide principles

Thanks for the link and the information on the speakers. Sounds terrific and hopefully some more of us will get to hear it sometime.
The more systems we experience the better we are able to appreciate and analyze other systems as they come along. I am all for listening to good and bad systems......and it appears that yours sounds super!!
