Just saw an ad on tata sky channel 100 about a new tatasky mobile app which is supposedly coming soon. I don't have the details but based on the ad it seems it'll have streaming content available (again, no ideas if its live channels or other content). I know the general opinion isn't in favor of tatasky these days (with limited number of HD channels, higher costs, mega pack not getting the new SWP channel), but if they can provide something like the comcast (and other providers) apps in the US, it'll be a really great addition IMO. Let's hope they don't fudge it up somehow.

Looks like the app has launched now. Acc to the tatasky message, the app has over 50 channels showing live for Rs 60 per month (boo). Will give it a try once I'm home later tonight. But that's assuming tata sky allows a demo for a day. Not paying 60 bucks for the whole month only to find out its useless Or doesn't work at all within the first few minutes. I'll wait for someone else to give it a try if I can't demo it for a day before paying for the whole month first.

No demo. Minimum subscription is one month. Couldn't even find the list of available channels anywhere. Asked the CC rep to email me a list of available channel but they refused saying its not possible. Said he could tell me the channel names but can't email a list for some reason. No English entertainment or movies channles available. No interest in Hindi channels so didn't even ask which ones available.

Thought about giving it a try for a month but then decided against it. Didn't want to give tatasky the satisfaction that they could lure people into buying atleast a month of online tv by not providing any demo or trial options. Don't these idiots realize its not a hardware installation but an online service. Not providing a demo/trial is a suicide move for an online service.

Also I already wasted 60 bucks on the piece of crap known as Star World "premier" last month. Tatasky refused to terminate the channel from my package before the month was completed even though I called within an hour of the channel's premier. Not wasting any more money now.

Edit: oh, also found out dish tv already has a similar app. About 30 channels and some movies available for 69 a month.

It's really not about the 60Rs. a month. It's more to do with the Internet connection required to see the channels. Obviously you would want to see tv through mobile on the move and not when you are home. That means you need a 3G connection for which you would need to pay about Rs. 500 a month extra as you would need at least a few GBs of data pack. I could be wrong, but this is not making much sense!

My Take on this ... I share on the other thread as well ...

TataSky introduced the new TataSky ios/android app which has complete remote functionality, including recording, scheduling and complete program guide.

with ios they have also included TV Everywhere using which you can view all TV channels on the go as well via 3G and the broadcast is not recorded but live. The only thing is its paid with 60rs/month and only available for ios for now.

I tried it to see how it goes ........... my inputs ..

1. Buffering is good, with an 8mbps connection, it start off with the lowest quality and then gradually clears depending on the kind of connection you have, then its smooth and good. very much like how netflix operates. Its not HD per se but good enough to be view on iphone screen.

2. The app is one of the best I have seen, very smooth, responsive and perfectly laid out, plus all remote setting works perfectly, so if you have your STB remote misplaced, no worries use the mobile one (remote is also available for Android)

3. The TV channels are live, that is, it shows exactly the same programme in almost the same time frame as is with the actual TV

3. On the negative side, the TV everywhere is paid and only available for ios, also the channels are not the same as your packages. They have major popular ones covered but, it would have been good if my packages were available on mobile

Over all I was prettry impressed with the app, and hope with time they will refine the same for better experience ...
