I switched to TataSky HD two days ago. Subscribed to the Annual Mega-Lite Pack and got a discount of Rs. 500 on multi-room TV. Also received a further Rs. 700 (Rs. 699 to be exact) discount from the executive when I "dilly-dallied" over switching from DishTV (told him that DishTV was giving better price, etc.)

Anyway, that's all under the carpet now. The TS guys came and installed everything the next morning itself and I am happy. :yahoo:

One thing rather disappoints me. The HD STB has a different GUI look & feel. I have not got HD TV as yet. The whole menus, banner, info bar has such tiny fonts that it is damn difficult to read. The TS standard SD STB has such a clean interface and I would not hesitate to say that it is the best GUI amongst all DTH providers. But the HD-STB GUI is a big turn-off:
  • As I said, very tiny fonts. I am sure that the elderly cannot read the menu at all.
  • There is a large TS-HD+ icon/logo that takes 25% of the banner space. Come on. We donot need that. We have already subscribed.
  • The banner is slightly transparent and this makes it even more difficult to read.
I have lodged a request/complaint with TS. If you feel the same, I will request members to write to TS.

i felt the same when i migrated from SD to HD. But it is OK on a HD LCD. Got used to it. When i see a SD now, i fell SD GUI is not great :)

congrats just4kix !

the tiny fonts issue would be resolved once you get the HD TV. on the HD TV, you will be able to read the text as normal.

Nothing wrong with the TS HD fonts. you should have stick with TS SD if you don't have HDTV.

Not sure if is would solve the problem.. TS HD has an option of output in either HD or SD. Did u try that option?

Thats very sad, but as its supposed to be seen on an HDTV which should give a sharper and probably bigger picture (depending on screen size), this issue is more with you.

Hope you do get an HDTV soon :)

Also, bit confused if you got DVR or regular TS HD?
I have seen the banner on HD-TV also. Although the size is enlarged and more readablem but I think I will maintain my original view (font size must be increased). My relative who has the HD-TV was also saying the same thing - he converted from SD-TV/TataSky-SD to Full-HD/TataSky-HD.

BTW, I have TS-HD (not +). The banner shows a big TS-HD+ logo as an advertisement.

Thanks. I know it will be better. But I still think TV banner should be readable especially for older persons.

I have HD-projector and SD-TV. I will be buying HD-TV soon but my current loan repayments (home loan + car) is taking out a lot of liquidity. :( I may purchase HD-TV in 4/5 months and I did not want to pay an additional sum (Rs. 2600 per STB) again.

That does not solve the problem.

No matter what size and type of TV we have, i still feel the DTH providers have to give choices for display fonts, like may be small, medium and large. Viewing preferences differ from person to person. Just my thought.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
