Tears of Sorrow - How To Kill Speakers Via Courier!!!

Man, this is very sad. This is sure due to negligence and definitely it had fallen from a great height for such damage. Hope he will be able to salvage the speaker.

Really a sad story, makes me cringe. I had the same experience with my odyssey stratos amp, where outwardly the box did not look damaged but when hooked up one channel did not work. Upon opening the amp. the soldering of wires to the internal channels had broken off indicating that the courier guy dropped the box. It was in its original box and foam protection.
My lesson learnt that day was - A heavy or large product should not be shipped via courier and if done so like other posters indicated it has to be packed in a wooden crate. I dont think courier companies are geared up to transport sensitive electronic items especially from individual users.
Maybe they do better with company accounts.
Cheers
Sid

While coming from Kolkata to Delhi, my last stretch of the Gangtok trip ... chanced upon the way 'airport' loaders handle sensitive electronic goods.

I was sitting on the 'window' seat and had a clear view of the ongoings at the aircraft goods loading bay. The items in question were at least 25 odd company packed Sony Bravia EX Series LCDs (32" to 47" sizes). Even though the consigner (whoever it was) had taken the trouble to paste (Fragile - Handle with care) on to each packed box, the airport loaders who are more used to handle suitcases, bags or plain baggy luggage could not but just throw (literally chuck) the LCD boxes on to the conveyor feeding to the aircraft belly. There would have been another round of chucking once the boxes would have 'entered' the aircraft .....

Dunno about the courier guys, maybe they would receive some training in this department. But, when it comes to the airport 'coolies' ... Airports Authority of India employees, then GOD only help the consignee ...

Ouch!! Sorry to hear that denom. I do hope Soundsgreat is able to fix the issue.

Agree with avidyarthy on how air cargo is handled. On a recent trip from Melbourne, I found that a tin of threptin which was inside the checked-in baggage was totally disfigured - thanks to the way it was handled.

i got extremely fragile items like audio tubes, Touch screen panel (made of glass) from China and HongKong without any problems at all.....All these are shipped by the China Post or our good 'ol India Post... Maybe you are extremely unlucky to have your stuff broken in transit... I wish your gear happy recovery :)

I wish there was an insurance option when you courier such fragile items  . Hope our hifi experts will be able to give life to that speaker damaged as said by santhol2 ....

GoodLuck.

Sorry to hear this. One can only take comfort in knowing that the damage can be repaired. I wonder how speakers companies pack speakers ? That might be helpful. They must be doing this all the time as they have to transport to the showroom regularly.

Bro, the guys who actually handle this are not into reading at all! They are into muscle... if you see them at work, its like watching the olyimpics!
How far can you throw the stuff... who high can u stack up the stuff etc...
Yes Manav, and sometimes me thinks the courier guys would take it as a 'challenge' to destroy a neatly and properly packed equipment.

i saw a similar picture when i went to kingfisher cargo section in delhi domestic cargo terminal for collecting my subwoofer..
..the way they were throwing all the boxes on the road i thanked god that the weight of my sub was around 40kgs so that it was not easy to just throw it out of the truck..even then i found the sub cover torn from the side and scratched inside when i picked it directly from the truck..must have been damaged while loading..
from then on i decided to spend extra on getting shipment wood packed and send by road rather than send it by air without much protection..

Really Sorry to hear this!!
Bad luck and misfortune strike like a bolt of lightning ...

My Audire Callisto BS came by bus transport service overnight and I had no problems.

I think this was an accident as a company of this reputation normally can be trusted. Top bad you can't even claim damages - that is really a doublely painful blow!

How much did the speakers cost ?

Sent from my iPod touch

Yes, the bolt of bad luck struck real bad.
Speakers cost 25k ex factory, mumbai.

In india whatever stickers you paste...people handling cargo loading and unloading are not properly educated to understand the instruction stickers.

Update on the state of the damaged speaker -

Shreekanth checked the speaker a while back, soldered the coil back & gave everything else a once over, during which found the bottom 8" bass driver totally screwd & needs to be replaced. My friend contacted the Good People @ Telome, who will replace the damaged woofer driver FOC! Wow, so awesome news that is! Shreekanth has already done the ground work on the replacement & now my friend just has to solder the new woofer in & the speaker will sing again !:clapping:

My friend will collect the new woofer from their showroom, when he visits mumbai next week.

Kudos to Shreekanth & Telome :clapping::clapping::clapping:for saving the day for my friend.... I could hear the happiness in his voice.... am glad & relieved at the same time.:)

Hip Hip Hooray!!! :yahoo:

Hi Denom,

Glad to know that there is a positive end to this episode! Thanks to Shreekanth. What about the crack in the veneer? Is that being repaired as well?

It is not very usual for vendors in India to provide such genuine customer service. So real kudos to Telome:clapping:

Yes Kinge, my friend fixed that with some magic stuff, he says its now totally unnoticeable, will ask him to give the details of the product he used for our benefit.

The gesture on the part of Telome is truly appreciable, God Bless them.

Your friend possibly used the magic pen scratch remover commonly used to hide scratches in cars. Do find out from him and post it here.

Out of curiosity, did Shreekanth inspect the damaged speaker and found it structurally intact (since the veneer was cracked)?

Hi,

I am extremely happy to know that your speaker has got a rebirth with the help of telome and sreekanth. At last you can have a peaceful sleep tonight. cheers brother.

Yes he gave the thumbs up for the cabinet. Will post more details about the 'fix' my friend used for the veneer part when I find out about it.
