Tears of Sorrow - How To Kill Speakers Via Courier!!!

Update on the state of the damaged speaker -

Shreekanth checked the speaker a while back, soldered the coil back & gave everything else a once over, during which found the bottom 8" bass driver totally screwd & needs to be replaced. My friend contacted the Good People @ Telome, who will replace the damaged woofer driver FOC!

Great! The relief that comes with this must be great for you and your friend. Kudos to Shreekanth and Telome! And thank you for writing this - a valuable eye opener for me :)

That's great news. Such customer service is unknown here.,
'tears of sorrow' has turned in to 'tears of joy' :)

Good to hear this 'tearful' episode ended on a happy note :) This would make people think twice before shipping their gear through couriers.

Cheers, Shriram

The only way I see the last scene being played out is a 'meet' @ my friends place when I am in bangalore (hopefully soon) & have a good listen to the Telome's :yahoo: & be in 'Good Spirits' ;)

Wat say bengalooroo boys???

PS:
Thanks to all for doling out emotional support & boosting my morale:clapping:
Much appreciated :)

I recently got my floorstanders, subwoofer and AVR from Denny (Bass-n-Treble) who sent them by courier from Delhi to Lucknow. No damage at all. Maybe I was lucky :).

As said earlier I have lost my almost new Samson E62 Graphic EQ as the front plate was completely damaged by the courier company........while on transit after incomplete service from Chennai to Kolkata.......

Final Update:-

My friend was in mumbai last week, he got the replacement driver from Telome, who still insist that if at all my friend is still not happy with the speaker post replacement of the driver, they can replace the whole unit!!! Kudos to their spirit of 'All Out Support'
Since I was really busy with work, I could not meet him & drown our collective tears of sorrow together :(
Anyway, he reached bangalore, soldered the replacement driver & after crossing his fingers gave them a 'go' & then...... tears of happiness, 'Aaallll eeez Wellll'
To such an extent that his neighbours are now constantly at his door complaining about the racket he is creating :D

At last he & i are breathing a collective sigh of relief..... Really hope to get down to bangalore soon & have a good session 'headbanging' with them BT-300's!!!

Sorry for the late update as was not getting much time for ending this saga on an extremely happy note .....
I again thank all my friends on HFV for their response & support that I received through this thread - God Bless You All!!!

Up The Irons !!! \M/ !!!

NOTE: I sincerely hope nobody ever suffers the mental anguish & trauma that we have faced in this incident & that all possible precautions will be taken for future transportations of their precious gear.

BEST OF LUCK!!! :)

Drown in what, Denom;)

'Aaallll eeez Wellll' BEST OF LUCK!!! :)

Well, being 'Allrounders' anything that takes our fancy on that particular moment, but most of the times its the 'Sweet Amber' which is 'Shahi' but not very 'Katheen' for us, from the stables of the 'Dr' if you get my drift ;) else the 'Dastakhat' will do too.....

Shocked to hear the story, but equality good to see that all went well at the end ..... But I am curious to know is'nt there some kind of Insurance these "supposedly big and trusted" courier companies provide, atleast for the expensive equipment ..... I am sure DHL provides ..... may its only for the International Transits .....

Sam,

Since this was an FOC job done on behalf of my friend's friend, the whole issue of insurance did not come into the pic.... (the FOC biz is the whole root cause of my friend being unable to do anything further in the matter!)
otherwise am sure that the insurance part is covered albeit with a higher total amount for the insurance cover included.

I need to have floorstanders delivered to me (in bangalore) from my bro in bombay. Any idea how much getting them couriered would cost?

He has thrown away the original packaging . Do DHL, Pafex or Blue Dart do packaging as well?

Hi
I dont think any courier company will do the packing for you. They are for sure known to handle the parcels very badly (tossing it in and out of their trucks/vans)

What you can do is that tell your brother to get corrugate boxes of a size that can fit your speakers and then also add adequate thermocol / foam / bubble wrap so it can withstand any shock.
Further, if your brother is still not satisfied after packing the speakers in corrugated boxes, you can make wooden box and put the corrugate boxes in which the speakers were packed in it for extra safety

All this will cost you a little and you will need to run around but all this will make sure that the speaker reaches safely to you

Hope this helps

Thanks!! does anyone who has done the packaging know how much just packaging would cost? (100's or 1000's??) and any places where it can be done in Mumbai (near worli area)

I am guessing the courier charges would be around 2k.

apart from the DIY effort suggested ..maybe you should get hold of someone who advertises his vocation as being " Packers and Movers"..the local yellow pages should hold some information ..or else here is a link with phone numbers
Packers and Movers India,Packers Movers,Movers and Packers,Packers Movers Services Delhi,Mumbai,Bangalore,Hyderabad,Pune,Chennai,Cargo Movers India,Cargo Packers Movers,Home Shifting Delhi,Home Movers Delhi, Delhi Movers Packers, Delhi Relocation Com

In recent days I have spoken to a few 'packers and movers',for a possible shifting of my stuff from Chandigarh to Goa.These guys basically offered a Tata 407 or what they call a '19 footer'.For the full truck the branded guys wanted 50K and for a 'part truck'where my shipment would be clubbed with someones stuff heading for Pune,40K.Packing,loading,unloading,insurance was extra.
I guess this would only be worthwhile if one is moving house, not just some equipment. For HiFi I feel one needs to personally pack the stuff for maximum protection and use a good air courier like TNT,DTDC,Bluedart.Ultimately it is a matter of goof fortune,if your stuff arrives in the same condition in which it was sent:)
