The Unofficial Quad Owners' Club !

Hi,

The input impedence of the 909 is 20K.What are the impedences of the passive pre and source?

Regards
Rajiv

Dunno about the input impedence... but I can tell you that something certainly was very very off.

@AE
This is indeed a news. The set will be used and fiddled extensively over the weekend. I cant be unjust and just perform a quickie over this beauty ..has to be nice n slow! I'd like to take my own time. But you can pour in your 'highly invaluable' tips !

big thanks!

Is an ex Quad owner eligible for the club :)
I had put my Quad 12L Actives on sale sometime back (actually still available though not with me)
Probably the only person in the forum who had the 12L Actives.
I have to say that they were very very good. I really liked the sound coming out of it. I was never able to do justice to the setup as I didn't have a proper source. The pre I used was a Musical Fidelity Tube Headphone Amp. I suppose it did a great job, but a dedicated pre would have been even better.
The most important thing was the music was sounding quite sweet. A bit of more detail in the highs would have been nice.
Also, sometime ago I had bought the last Quad L-ite in India before the Lite2 came in. This 5.1 was with me for a very short duration. Its not a match to the bigger brothers but one of the best musical 5.1 I have heard.

I would suggest people to consider the actives seriously if possible.
For a computer based setup actually there is a Quad 9l Actives available which doesn't need a pre, comes with remote and even USB in. Can be quite a musical complete setup.

I used to own Quad 909 . I had Quad 99 pre as well. But I liked the sound more through my passive pre .Quad 909 is a good and powerful amp but it has a signature sound with mid bloom and less details at extreme ends. The sound with different recordings are on predictable lines. After 2 years or so the sound became unexciting for me so i went for a change. Presently I have arcam P35 which is more detailed than Quad 909 at the extremes with good mid . I am using the same passive pre and the bookshelves from Klein and Hummel P110. The sound is to me extremely natural and detailed.

@ Binoy da
Your 909 is shining in all its brilliance with me and it makes me smile everytime it plays. Lets discuss once again after few months on this ..they would 'grow' more hopefully by then.

Hey, add me to the membership list.

Have a FM4 , 34-pre-amp and 306 power amp, as part of my 'second' system, now largely used by my sons to play their iTunes files off the laptop.
Still, I do most of my own radio listening off this set-up, every morning, 107.10 FM, corny programming for the most part, but the only station here that's not drowning in indi-pop.

Photos to follow.

I hope those CDs don't rattle when music is playing. Anyways, great looking setup. Do let me listen to it when I am in fdbd next time.

Are you looking for first hand or also considering preowned?

If preowned, then you can get in touch with Kamal ji on the forum, his friend was looking to sell his full range Quads. Kamal ji on forum is there as - 'Kamal'
