Hi,
I recently had purchased wharfedale speakers 10.2 and had paired them with norge amp 2060,so far so good but i came to know that tweeters were not working i think i blew them ,ofcourse they r in warranty but i want to know what could have gone wrong? I source the music from my sony dvd player headphones socket and feed it to the amp.

The tweeters on both L + R are not working ?

Tweeters usually blow when you drive speakers with an inadequate amp. However considering you have the 10.2 and Norge 2060. that may not be the case.

However
In layman terms :
If you play your music really loud. it caused have caused the amp in your case Norge to be overdriven and it starts clipping which in turns starts sending sending distortion to the speaker

The first thing to usually blow as a result of clipping are the tweeters.

So corrective measures once you get the tweeters replaced

1. Go easy on the volume pod.
2. Get a more powerful amp.

Hi,
Yes both left and right tweeters not working, i may have once or twice gone full blast on the amp just for fun thats it! But the knob otherwise never crossed 3'o clock position,as neighbours would have come with sticks, also i had bi wired the speakers, was that the reason? But now i intend to connect them normally. Thanks

HI,
How much volume must be fed to the amp, meaning how much volume must be kept at source so as not to harm the amp?

How did you manage to biwire using the Norgo 2060?

HI,

well there is no hard and fast rule. whenever you start hearing distortion or if it sounds as if the speaker is getting streesed,
Its time to tame the volume

How do you know the tweeters are blown?
Wharf tweeters come into picture usually somewhere in 3 kHz sound range.

This means your speakers right now would be sounding as if someone killed the entire 3 - 20 kHz range (in a equalizer).

Is this what you experience?

Using the manual provided by the wharfedale where detailed pictures were shown, two separate set of cables each for high frequencies and low frequencies taken from the A set of output terminals to resp connectors at the speakers where the joint plates had to be removed. Correct me if i was wrong. Thanks.

I could make out as treble was not good, also putting ear to tweeter,no sound, additionally i removed the back plates connecting H/F and L/F, connecting the cables directly to h/f from the amp,no sound from the tweeters as suggested by the wharfedale dealer.Rest i am really confused. Thanks.

Hi,
I am sorry but i blew them once again!!! this time right side not working
what could be the reason???? i am really careful with the volume, maybe when i connect or disconnect from the source this happens, there that charrrrr sound when doing this.I hope the dealer will replace once again.
thanks.

Somehow I missed this thread earlier. You source it from a high level distorted output of head-amp of DVDP. Which should never be done.
1) Connect to the left and right channel out of the player at the back panel.
2) Whenever changing source switch off the amp or atleast, for god sake, put the volume to minimum.

Whenever you change the source it should be done at zero volume of the amp. and hope you did this when you operate. If it is so, I suspect the amp. Though wharfs are power hungry, because of the kevlar drivers, it is not that easy to blew the tweeters if the volume knob is not raised beyond 12 o clock for prolonged listening.

HSP,

I have similar experience with a normal Tweeter, I could guess some reasons and tried to follow the same which have given better result.

1.Do not keep the Volume nob full while turning on the audio system, This happens when we clean the amp and turn the nob full and forget to keep it minimal.
2.Some audio source have noising while recording and while reproducing the same it would sound distortion, if you hear harsh sound then try to reduce the volume.

Sensitivity is just 86dB, turning the volume knob higher and higher will be *normal* in this scenario. But, you amp delivers no more than 80W on a 4 ohm load. If now you play at high volume (try to), and play music with decent bass content (also if source level is not right - like koushik mentioned), you pretty much have the perfect recipe for running out of headroom and amp starts to clip. if you are not able to hear distortion (and many users cant), and you continue turning the volume knob more, your tweeters will be gone.
You need an amp which is capable of delivering more than 100W @ 4ohm for this speaker, around 120W at least. Forget what the manufacturer claims, it being a 6 ohm load.

Hi,
Got replaced the tweeter free of cost second time ;) but really worried such thing happening in future, the dealer gave me a scolding, not to go high on volume or treble which i never do now.when contacted norge audio for input, they agreed that wharfs tweeters are really tiny which cannot handle any sudden variation in treble or volume, they also requested me to go slow on vol and treble.:indifferent14::rolleyes:

Its good news that they have replaced the tweeters, also i dont agree with their comment on "Wharfs" in general. There could be some issue with the Source ("Amp") which made to blew away the speakers or could be your mistake(Handling), Its still not agreeable to comment On speakers.

Anyways try to add new habit of Reducing the volume to "0" in amp before you switch-off,it would save more time, and if it happen again, then plan to upgrade the Amp or Speaker:)
