umc 1 problem.

Hello every1
I have emotiva umc 1 from past 2 yrs but now it gives me trouble. No audio at all only video.i have tried everything firmware update,reattaching cables and all the hassle.the thing is sometimes audio comes sometimes not,earlier when this problem started audio comes after ten minutes automatically as the days goes by time increases like half hr.,then one hr. But from last two weeks no audio at all.
I have sent email to emotiva but no replies yet
I'm thinking of buying another pre amp,should anyone suggest me and is there anyone who have umc-1 and has same problem or not.

I had one before upgrading to a Marantz pre pro. Sorry cant help you but you may want to get onto their forum-assuming they have one-or try AVS Forum they definitely should have one.Far better likelihood of getting assistance from them rather than here, where numbers may be limited..

Thanx for reply,i already on their forum and there r few too who have same problem,i already email to emotiva.
Brother can u pls tell me why you switch from umc1 to marantz and which model of marantz and how much u pay for marantz pre pro
I'm also considering to buy another pre,pro

Have you looked at outlaw audio? I haven't heard them personally but was looking for an avr preamp and this one really stood out. Outlaw audio also has some really good and powerful multi channel power amps.

Hold on man. I'd give Emotiva a chance to help you out with the problem. If you emailed them over the weekend, you should get a response soon. If not, call their support line. I know they support their customers very well, no matter where they are located.

Possibility can be the decoder chip or DAC chip is not getting powered up.May some capacitor failure near voltage regulator be the reason.Not completely sure,but may be.

Hi Manu ...long time

change cables.....try changing the hdmi cable (input-from source to umc-1)..may help.


I lost sound from my sorround channels really dint know what went wrong but just changing my interconnects worked well.

I recently spoke on phone with emotiva and they said they will send me hdmi board, i have to install it locally but i also told them if i send my unit back to them will they send me new one waiting for their reply on mail.

Generally speaking if you are outside the US, the US warranty( even if the warranty has expired) obligations do not apply. Within the US the customer is king and they go out of their way to keep them satisfied.

Emotiva agreed on repair,i have to send it to them and i have to pay for shipping for both ways.

long time.. no see around here..

ask them to send you a circuit diagram with the part to be replaced and you can save on transportation and customs hassles. There are many good folks around in north india from our forum as well to take care of this. you could request on the forum for help and maybe someone would PM you.

ofcoure.. the ball is in your court.. i have experienced the hassle of export and re-import and hence this message.
