I am already in a problem here. Actually my setup is a dedicated home theatre room was looking for a projector and suddenly my brother got a projector home today "Hitachi cp-x5021N". I checked the review of it on the Internet and it was just 1024x768 resolution. Nor me or my brother has any idea about projectors I was just worried thinking is this the right projector for me & I have seen other projectors on the Internet which has some higher resolution I think which is full HD. I have not opened the current hitachi box it's still seal packed if you guys suggest me something else and feel this is not worth the price then I can exchange and get what I want. And this hitachi is a 2011 model if I am not mistaken. And use of the projector will be 80% blu ray & 20% HDTV. Please help me ASAP so that I can go and exchange it tomm itself

Try for Epson TW8100, it's more expensive but has lens shift.

But surely get rid of the current one, with a lac budget don't even consider a non-HD projector.

If you can stretch even more than Benq W7000 is also a good choice in DLP range and with lens shift.

You should check out the Mitsu HC4000- around 1.1 Lakh. Full HD

Mits does not have a lens shift.

No I can't stretch my budget more than 1lac .... So anything under that budget but need a full HD projector ...

How much is Epson TW8100 ?

I think people have got it for around 1.4 in this forum.

Around 1, Mits HC4000 and Epson TW6100 are good options. But both don't have lens shift.

Btw, why do you need lens shift? In a dedicated room you try and adjust.

Yes i do have a dedicated screen but what I feel is most of the movie will be downloaded from the Internet 1080P and few I have blu ray disc .... So I don't want the black patch on the top of my screen .... So I thought with the lens adjust I can overcome that ... Correct me if I am wrong ... That's what I thought is the use of lens shift ... I will be also watching HDTV and I don't want the black patch .... Please guide if I am wrong.

Forgot to quote !!! Pls reply ASAP !! I just read some good reviews about TW6100 !! Will be going for it ... Just confirm the lens shift issue with me.

Dinesh, If you want to stop by in Bangalore- I can show you the Mitsu HC4000. The purpose of the lens shift is to adjust the Projector during setup. Yours being a dedicated room-- you adjust the mount to get the projector where it needs to be. Once installed the lens shift is not moved. While watching a movie-- the room being dark you will not notice black patch

So does that means with lens shift I can overcome the black patch ? And I am from Mumbai, my setup is at tamilnadu. I have my flight on 11th so I just have one day to decided and buy.

Lens shift is not going to help remove those black bars. There are two options for that, 1. Use an external anamorphic lens, and it will cost minimum as much as a projector itself. 2. Buy a projector like Panasonic 7000/8000 which has a motorised lens shift and zoom, but this will be at least 1.5 in India.

I would suggest not to bother about black bars, as thtpro said, you won't notice them in a dark room anyway.

Suggest to try the TW6100. It's the latest epson model available, has 3D and long lamp life. Regarding Mits HC4000, it a couple of years old model. I have seen neither so cant comment more than this.

Also do note that if you are buying the mits then I have seen other members on this forum getting it for 85k. But still try for the Epson, even if it means waiting for delivery.

Thanks that helped me a lot on understanding what actually is the lens shift. Will get the Epson TW6100 tomorrow. Thanks and thank you everyone for your replies :) cheers //

Hi Dinesh,

Good choice. If you are very particular about budget of 1 then you have choices like Mits, HD20, Viewsonic pro8200, Epson 8350, Epson 6100. But none of these have lens shift. and I dont think lens shift will be used for removing black bars..... thats not the functionality.

Mits is around 87000/-, Viewsonic around 75000/-, HD20 around 77000/- (I think), Epson 6100 around 95000/-

@Dinesh, one thing you should never do is buy something worth 100k in a snap deal. You must do a thorough research. When I purchased my projector in 2005, I was just looking at various websites, going thru reviews, specs, technology aspects for a whole two months. In fact the deep obsession took some of my office time also. But two months later I was the proud owner of the top rated projector at that time. Seven years later, the projector is still giving me good service. It is not 1080p but it does not bother me that much - at least yet.

Second thing is budget. While it is prudent not to go haywire with the financial provisions, a projector is not something that you are going to buy every two years. So think about the best what you can buy within your limits. At the moment, it seems that you are putting the cart before the bullocks. 1 Lac is a decent budget but if by flexing another 10k, you get a much better product then that should be considered.

While lens shift is a very important feature, it is usually not required if the projector is permanently installed, e.g., ceiling mounted. You can go thru my article: Home Theatre Blues - Part 6 (b): Choosing the Projector and also this one: Top 10 Home Theater Projectors

Sribuddy and Imrahn,

When you mention the prices Epson 6100 around 95000/-
Is it with bill and warranty ? including / excluding tax ?
Because the best quote I got for TW-6100 is 93k + 14.5 % tax = 1.06 L and for TW-8100 is 1.2 L + 14.5 % tax = 1.37 L .
Can anyone let me know if I could get better deal in Bangalore ?
