USB cable to connect External HDD

HDD <--hdd-supplied-lead--> >--female-USB2-to-Male-USB2-extension--> Any USB A socket.

The performance will be USB2. USB2 extension is available at any electronics or computer store.

.

With the male to female USB Extension the HDD is not being recognised by the TV. So I just need a single long wire.

How would this solve my problem? I didn't get you.

fat32 is a primitive format and used on pendrive/memory sticks and sd cards. file limit of 4 GB..

if your HDD is not getting detected since day and is on NTFS format then formatting is the issue.

if it was detected earlier and now not working then check the cable..

usb 3.0 and all off that aint an issue for 3.0 is backward compatible.

I just learnt something :)

The Micro-USB 3.0 receptacle is backward compatible with the Micro-USB 2.0 plug.

...usb.org.

So it is! :o I just tried it. The USB2.0 Micro plug (fits your phone, etc) fits into the bigger side of the USB3.0 "m".

So there is another idea for single-cable connection of your USB3.0 hdd to a USB2.0 socket :D

Aman, I have a feeling you didn't understand my problem. You would have seen my HDD couple of times now. With the shorter cable that came with the HDD the TV is recognising etc. It' only when I connect a USB extension cable is the HDD not being recognized by the TV.

No. This is specifically a USB3 plug.

But the answer is in my post above: USB2 Micro fits the bigger side of the "m" and it works.

The pic you posted is for which wire? Is it the mobile data cable? I don't have anything like that. Especially the one where it seems like letter B.
I only learnt it yesterday! OK, the day before...
And, as ever on the net, I was looking for something else when I came across this info :D

Man could you let me know using which mobile you got that cable. I have one with both S2 and another using LG optimus net but they don't look like the one you posted.

Also was able to finally get hold of the cable online but its around Rs 300. I was looking for something around Rs 100.

That's the hdd end of a USB3 cable. I thought that was what you needed for the USB3 hdd?

Apart from some odd stuff (like my Panasonic camera, which I guess is proprietary fit, Grrr) USB2 miniature plugs are either mini or micro. See... here.

I have no idea about price: your shopping is as good as my shopping!

Bear in mind that this is something you are going to buy once only, and also bear in mind that, although I'm dead set against hifi-hype on digital, computer cables, a badly made cablemay not be up to spec and may be false economy.
