Hi

I have a wierd question :

Can a floor-standing speaker be hanged on a wall next to the LCD/Projector ??

Can it be placed on a cabinet/shelft 2 feet above ground ??

thanks

There are two points to consider here. One, are the speakers rear firing? In which case you have to give at least 12 inches space behind the speakers. Two, can the wall hanging or the shelf bear the weight and give the speakers enough stability not to shake and resonate?

That is the reason why you have bookshelf speakers. Today, many speakers have arrived in the market that have been made specifically to be hung next to a LCD/Plasma TV.

Cheers

spidey - there are lot of in-wall speakers available from good brands - if aesthetics are your primary concern (and if you can dig into the walls).
As venkat said, they need to be front firing or have space behind them in case you want to use conventional fs.
I think there is no harm in trying - if you can hold them in place well.

unfortunately you are not in mumbai
a friend runs an audio shop here who has something very similar to what you are looking for
3 driver speakers flush with wall

hes got a couple brands i think

I tried putting my floorstanders on speaker stands. The sound stage has become taller and looked more realistic but at the cost of loss of bass (to the tune of 20-25%)

Interesting Question !!
If that is exactly what you want to do would suggest having a strong Granite/metal shelf made on the wall. something which can take the weight this will give it a almost infinite mass

your second problem would be how to aim it so that the dispersion character is righ onto your ears.. this can be done by some kind of a Tension wire to suspend it at and angle to the shelf

The problem: you are going to have horrible reflection problems as the natural dispersion is not parallel to the floor...so some really thick carpets might be needed,

Finally. an easier option would be a Sub-Sat with the sats placed in the wall handling upto 100z and the sub ticked away in a corner. or a Bookshelf along the walls on a shelf augmented by a Sub.

Magma, where in mumbai can 1 demo these?

Boom aat carter road in bandra is owned by a friend (Zohir)
other than having the general marantz denon PSB NAD he also has less talked about brands like Gamut and the ones that venkat mentioned

His HT setup is brillant with flush mount designs from different brands
Ive heard them . they are lovely

capt B&W actaully advices some of their floorstanders to be put on short stands or pedestal stands as they call it
In fact these pedestal stands are also angled or tilted to the back so the floorstander also lies tilted
This further lifts the soundstage
In fact im working on some orders for these pedestals too

I once had a very strong idea/ motivation to get into DIY and convert my sofa into a sub-woofer. I was not able to devote enough time, shame on me.

It's a funny language and whereas a word misused between friends doesn't matter when we all know what is being talked about, this one makes me uncomfortable... because murderers get hanged; pictures, speakers, pheasants, etc, get hung.

Please excuse my correction. Feel free to ignore.

On topic: Most floor standing speakers, even without rear ports, are not designed to even stand up against a wall or in a corner. Go with the recommendations to go for something designed for the purpose

Good Catch Thad :)
