Hi,

Resolution wise it's going to be 4K/8k ranges. But color wise, there is going to be a very major leap. This new technology called HDRI abbreviation for High Dynamic Range Imaging is going to be implemented in the world of television/projectors etc.... In the graphic world it's referred as HDRI, but in general it's referred as HDR. It is a set of techniques that allow a greater dynamic range of luminances between the lightest and darkest areas of an image than standard digital imaging techniques or photographic methods. i.e if you actually measure the color value of the Blacks and Whites it would be precisely 0 and 1. This wider dynamic range allows HDR images to more accurately represent the wide range of intensity levels found in real scenes.
This technology is going to be really awesome.

What is HDR-TV Display?

cheers.

A Lateral move, with the same or lower res...

3D TV which is the next big thing internationally in 2010... while India redies for the commonwealth games in HDTV...

India is a generation behind in Video tech... despite having the world's largest movie industry

Ultra HD (2560x....) is gonna come up next... and Aspect Ratio would be 21:10... LCD s of aspect ratio 21:10 are already launched at hifi shows/exhibitions at few places abroad..

Sorry for the off topic mate,All this items makes us tempted ,but the source to use it to its full advantage is limited, even all got 1080p tv's but hd dth provides 720p, that too for limited channels, unless we are going to invest in bds we cant enjoy its advantage, buying bluray discs will empty ur pocket by 1000 bucks an hour,do u think that it is too expensive for indian conditions....

THE FUTURE IS ALWAYS EXCITING - BUT it will always be just beyond the reach of many of us in India

Present Scenario:
We have yet to embrace FULL-HD in all it's glory. As guys have rightly pointed out - DTH in "1080p or i" is yet to take off [The Indian Govt had set a deadline for all broadcaster's to switch over ... BUT nothing's happenned].

We empty our pockets grudgingly and spend a bomb on getting a sleek large screen LED/Plasma TV [with outdated technology as compared to US markets......... No THX certified panels; No passive 3D screens]... HD media players which play lossless BD formats cost 30k and above.... BD discs cost a bomb.... our broadband speeds suck [still at 256KB/s rather than the 5MB & above in US of A].....

.....and the Future
Yet down the road 10 years from now
1] TV's with 4K panels; super sleek & energy efficient
2] Watch 1000's of Internet Channels at speeds of 100 MB/s or more
3] Storage devices of a minimum 1PB [1petabyte capa=1000 TB & RAM's of TB capa]
4] Interactive & immersive programming [insert a 3D model/actor of your choice or even "yourself" into a TV-Show or a Movie and programme it's story. James Cameron gave us a glimpse in Avatar......lol]
5] The 24/7 Online world on TV would both be exciting and terrifying - as the simple joy's of living - real conversations; meeting one-another; playing games outdoors [no gizmo type]; picnics - all these will take a backseat.

Cheer's to the future  BUT I wanna move right into it

Just to re-open this - BBC is planning to show the 100m final in 2012 Olympics in 3d and also piloting the Super Hi Vision. Plan is to erect a couple of screens which is supposed to give the viewer the feeling as if he/she is in the stadium.

MOre on the technology:

NHK /digital

ALso as most of us are aware Google Fiber is already being rolled out in US:

Google Fiber shows its potential with 151Mbps download speeds | Geek.com

So I believe in the future, majority of the data will come through internet.. or there wont be any difference between accessing internet or accessing TV or for that matter our music files (apart from analog obviously)
