What should be the best power management for my Music setup?

But it has to be installed at a distance from the audio rack, because of noise from the cooling fan.

@Ajay, my mains in the flat entrance lobby is hardly 6-7 ft away from my Audio platform/speaker. So, even with a dedicated line from mains, the Emerson has to be kept within 2-3 ft from the speakers. Does the fan generates loud noise and is of serious concern?

Have any of you thought about changing the fan to a silent one ?

I am sure this must be possible.

The one installed would be a cost driven model to keep the overall price competitive.

Silent fan is a great idea, will do some research.

Ajay

The APC Smart UPS RT 3000 sells for around 35-40K without batteries, and batteries these days are very expensive with lead prices having shot through the roof. I just checked the price for a 12V 5AH bettery-need four of them for a nephew's online UPS, and was quoted 1165 each by Exide. I suspect the higher rating UPS may cost a bit more!

Yes, the battery replacement cost for UPS will be high. How will be Zephyr from that perspective? I think, it will not require any battery replacement.

Yes, the cooling fan is quite noisy. Within a room it would be audible from even 10 feet away. If you have a protected area at a distance from the entrance lobby, you could place the ups there and run the power cables from the distribution box till that point, and then route the cleaned up power back to the distribution board and on to your system.

My set up tailored for my requirements goes something like this:

32kva mcb from the distribution board---- cut off box provided to protect ups from extreme voltages----ups----25kva mcb in the distribution board----power sockets behind the audio rack.

Hi Amitnoida!
I am using Zephyr 2 kva power conditioner. I have changed the stock power cord with Acoustic Art terminated with Furutech plugs. The power conditioner is isolated with Agora Acoustic isolation pods. The sound quality has gained with the said tweaks.
I have A-B'd Zephyr with Shunyata Hydra and found Zephyr to be more dynamic and open than Shunyata.

Vasu

Thanks Vasu. The Agora isolation pods works well. I have noticed the same after using them for my CDP & Amp. As I have a servo stabiliser, I think Zephyr would be a better choice for me. It will eliminate the problem of fan noise as I will not be able to place Emerson at a distance. Have you changed the power cord after receiving the Zephyr or you got it done at their factory itself with additional price? Can you please explain the total system and components starting from your mains?

Got the opportunity of Emerson UPS home demo today. The fan noise is noticeable, but did not pose much of problem to me even with placement of it in my listening room. Actually I have two aquariums in my home and they produce more humming sound, so I am used to it.

But the main problem are elsewhere. First they are 'Made in China' and the power cord and female sockets at the back are not so good quality.

My Furutech three pin plug could not be fitted in these. How did the users of Emerson UPS overcome this?

The Emerson dealer arranged three generic cables for the demo that they did at my house. One cable is there as part of the accessories. They bought two more as I had specifically asked for them. One end went into the female ports on my cdp/pre/power and the other end was directly plugged into the ports behind the Emerson. The sound quality was so bad that my first reaction was to give up the idea of buying the ups.

Fortunately I suggested that we would do a second demo the next day. The next day I called my electrician and he connected the ups to the distribution board. We ran direct external 4 mm cables to sockets behind the audio rack. When I plugged the the cdp/pre/power directly into these ports, there was a HUGE improvement in the sound. The SQ now had a clean, airy, ethereal feel which I had never heard before in any system. So much of the mud and noise which was present in my system was gone. I only realized that it had been present earlier, by the fact of its absence now.

In short. Buying the Emerson is a great idea. Placing it close to your system and using cheap generic cables to directly connect your source and amp to the Emerson is a terrible idea.

I am thinking of buying a power conditioning system and found some interesting discussion here. Audire's Zephyr is interesting; wanted to check their website but it is one of the lousiest websites that I've ever seen.

The main page has several headings like Products, Arclight etc etc. When I take the mouse on Products, a pulldown menu showing Speakers, Amplifiers, Power Purification, Racks and Accessories appears but when I try to move the mouse to select the pulldown options, the moment the mouse moves away from the red rectangle highlighting 'Products' the pulldown menu disappears. There is no sitemap to find my way through.

But from the discussion it appears, no one is experiencing this problem. Can anyone send me a link to their power conditioners page?
