I am in the confusion which headphone should i opt for.
denon ah-d5000 or sennheiser hd650

my main purpose is for movies, electronic music, and good mids, highs and lows.

budget and type of music you listen to ?

above 100 $ there are lots of options..

any thoughts bout

audio technica / grado's and if ya can go for d-5000 they are expensive why not

ortho's and a amp combo ??

I got Sennheiser HD 650 and HD 595. The differences between the two are so subtle as far as watching movies are concerned that i prefer HD 595, which i feel has a more comfortable headband. HD 650 on other hand really shines when it comes to music and it can never go wrong if driven properly.

Orthos have a good midrange but so does HD650 when driven by a good headphone amplifier.

Best lower end I have ever experienced was the Audeze LCD 2 but it is around 45000:mad:

Best higher end belongs to the HiFiman HE family again 45000/55000:mad::mad:

Below 25000 the good options are the denons, HD650, HD600, AKGs, AT.

for the kind of heaphones you are looking into.. you would certainly need a decent headphone to utilize their power and capacity else you might end up getting sound similar to a 200 $ headphone..

first you should decide whether you want closed or open headphones. If you really need to listen in the office (open area) or late night when your wife/ kids are asleep, open cans are not going to make it, and they will end up in the cupboard.
If you have a cabin at work etc, then go for open cans as they sound more open :)

For the kind of usage(electronic music, movies etc) the Denon sound signature would be more enjoyable. The D5000 or the D2000 would be ideal candidates afaik.
The open Sennheissers, Audio Technicas, Grados may not give the required clout for movies or EDM.

my main purpose is for movies, electronic music, and good mids, highs and lows.

Movies and electronic music then D5000 will be a better choice than HD650. HD650 is more suitable of acoustic, vocals, soft rock and classical. HD650 has bigger sound stage, warm, smooth and laid back than D5000 and needs a lot of power to be driven properly.

Another choice for your requirement would be the ultrasone pro 900 and a much cheaper alternative will be the bayerdynamic DT990 pro.
