Hi Everyone,

Im from Chennai & new to this forum, Ive just picked up a 46 Bravia LCD & a Panasonic BD-75 Blue Ray Player for my TV room. Im looking for some expert advise on which Home Theatre setup would be good for a 16x16 (256 sqft) room size. I would prefer something that sounds good with music as well. My budget is around 25-30K.
Ive shortlisted a few options, though I havent auditioned any as yet.
Onkyo HTS 3400
Yamaha YHT 296
Are there any good options with Boston Acoustics, or do you have any better suggestions in this price range?

Hi,

Thanks for the immediate reply.
Does the YHT 296 have active or passive sub woofer? Which acc to you is better for future upgrade?
Am I correct that the DHT1312 is Denon AVR sold in combination with BA speakers?
A lot of people on this forum seem to be very happy with the Onkyo, any reason?
Can you help with the price on the above options?

Yamaha 296 has active sub 100watt.
Denon 1312DHT is the same as u have said with ba spks.(this can be upgraded to 7.1 by adding 2 active spkr for ur surrouns back L & R.

The YHT (i think) & the DHT 1312xp have an active Sub.

The DHT1312xp is a combi of AVR 1312 + SYS 1312.
Price last I checked was 33.5k for YHT 296 & 30k for DHT 1312xp.

Both are excellent choices in the sub 35k price braket. I would go with the Denon!

Hope this helps & I am not intruding

Thanks Guys!

Denon seems to be a good option here, but any idea abt the after sales service?
Does one use the speaker wires included in the package or is it better to purchase branded wiring seperately?
Got to see the Pioneer Todoroki at Reliance Digital..his sub wasnt working :( he wants me to go back after a few days. Looks like a MEAN set when compared to the YHT 296 & the DHT 1312..let's see what it sounds like...
V25253 you are abs not intruding...this is a forum where people make suggestions based on their experience & expertese....people like me benefit from such discussions, (I'm sure this is the purpose of this forum) so pls keep it flowing :)

Hi, I am happy you want to get into the world of home theatre.......you will love it!!! the good thing is that since you have a budget constraint there are very few options. Keeping the budget in mind, this is what you should go for:

Option 1 : denon 1312XP
Option 2 : Onkyo HTS 3400

If you can further stretch your budget then you can get something even better:

denon AVR 1312 + 5.1 speaker system (boston acoustics, wharfedale, jamo, polk audio, etc.............). If interested in this option, I could give you a list of budget entry level 5.1 speaker systems.

Regards

We must make a sticky thread for Best HTiBs below Rs. 30k. Too many queries and all recommendations are similar. Mods?

Thanks for yr input Aakash,

Yes, I can stretch my budget a bit, not too much though.
Can you pls suggest good 5.1 systems to go with the Denon 1312 or the 1612?

hi, some of the good ones are:

JBL Cinema 300
Polk Audio RM6750
Wharfedale Moviestar 65+
Boston Acoustics Soundware XS (my pick)
Jamo A 102 HCS 3

please try to demo as many as you can with the selected denon receiver, before coming to a final decision.

Regards

Hi Aakash,

I've auditioned the Denon DHT 1312 XT - sound wasn't up to the mark..speakers did not handle well at high volumes, swapped the front speakers with Cambrdge S30 - this sounded better, but still wasn't satisfied. Also auditioned the Denon 1312 + Polkaudio RM 705 - again not up to the mark.
Then checked out the Pioneer VSX 521 + Magnat 5001A 5.1 - superb sound (ofcourse at a higher price)
After looking at the various options I've decided to stretch my budget further & plan to audtion the Pioneer VSX 521 + Boston Acoustics CS26+CS23+CS225+CS SUB10 tomorrow...only am unsure abt whether to go for the Denon 1312 or the Pioneer VSX 521 AVR. Can someone help???

any hometheater less than 7.1, is not future...
already packs of 7.1 hd dts blurays are on sales.
tech. reaches india before any other south asian..
i enjoy my onkyo 7.1, also i suggest u to consider active sub. please keep minimum budget as equal to ur tv price...

I would go with denon 1312/1612. Nice to know you have extended your budget, so you can get a better system. Also demo:

wharfedale diamond 9 and 10 series
polk audio rti series
tannoy mercury VI
tannoy mercury F2
Q Acoustics 2020 / 1020i / 1010i

all the best!!!

most bluray rips are saved in mkv format. your bluray player should have support for mkv, only then will it be able to play. please check with the manual.
