Hi All,

I am visiting UK for a couple of weeks in Jan last week and I was astonished to check the prices for some branded HTIB's.

For instance: Denon DHT-1311XP home theatre system for about 40K
Denon DHT-1311XP home theatre system | Denon Home Cinema Systems | Audio T

Pioneer HTP-200 surround package at 40K

Now I have to confess that though I enjoy quality music, I have absolute zero knowledge about the technical details of these equipments. Hence would request the forum to share their views and suggest what should I go for. My budget is INR 50K (GBP 700) at the most.

The following two websites seem to have a lot of relevent stuff but I dunno what to choose :(

Audio T - The Best Choice & Service on Hi-Fi, TVs, Home Cinema, Speakers & Cables - Online & Across the UK

HiFix the Hi Fi and Audio professionals

Cheers,
CD

I got my HTIB here in Chennai..

My model is ONKYO HTS6200

It decodes all the latest HD audio & i got it for Rs 47,000, so just check with them first before deciding...

I have connected my blu-ray player, SUN HD & my media player to it & all together I'm completely satisfied with it :)

Hi All,

Would you be flying economy class, with a baggage allowance of one case, total 23kg? Is it really practical for you to bring back something like this?

Whatever you decide to buy, I'd suggest that you do plenty of on-line price-checking before you go. Richer Sounds is one good site to check. "Sound" bargains can also be had at some of London's more seriously hifi shops too.

A similar system (I think slightly higher version) available in UK for 30K:

ONKYO HTS-6305 Home Cinema System

I am traveling with a colleague and he has kindly agreed to club the total check in weight with me. So I am hoping it to work out. Fingers crossed!

Oh good. If you are used to shopping in London/UK, ignore the rest of this post :) ...

Often it is more expensive to buy in a shop than to buy on line. You can usually get them to honour their online price by telling them that you know about it. Some shops will also offer to match the price of the same item in another shop.

Moreover don't forget to retain your VAT receipts of your purchases and claim VAT back at the airport.

Oh, good point: how could I have forgotten that! :o

It is necessary to have more than just receipt. One must have the VAT reclaim form issued by the retailer, so this is only available when buying from a shop that belongs to the scheme. Take passport along. Most shops would rather you filled in those details! But when shopping from big department stores, I've known them insist on seeing the passport.
