Which is a better AVR Yamaha 573 or Denon 2113

go for denon 3312

Err 573 & 2113 are 40-42k avrs where as if I had to guess 3312 is a 70k+ avr... How does that even compare??? If the OP is considering a 70k plus there are lot of other options too that he can check out...

@OP if ur budget is around 50k then check out the marantz 6006... It is by far the best avr u can buy at this price... It will blow the denon & Yamaha out of the water... In fact I would go so far as to say that it will probably surpass the 3312 too(personal opinion)...

DO NOT GO FOR Marantz 6006.it is very bright and musical .go for denon 3312 for 60k even we will try for 58k .value for money and its proved .accurate sound .

So we already see different opinion. I used to hear Marantz being warmer compared to other AVRs. Anyway, it is very subjective. Also it depends on the speakers. You started with AVRs around 40k range and planning to go till 50k. You may be tempted to increase the budget further. So first keep a check on your budget. Next, you better do audition. The reason is each AVR model/brand has it's own sound signature and there is no any clear winner on the grounds of sound quality. If I have any suggestions for you, I would say these :-
1. Stick with 50k
2. Do audition
3. If possible, see if you can get an AVR with preouts. I know it is difficult to get AVRs with preouts for around 50k, but you may get that for 2011 model. With preouts, you have an option of upgrading your home theatre.

I DONT MEAN TO STEP ON THE TAILS OF ANY MARANTZ FANS HERE: THE INTENTION IS NOT TO START A FIGHT -

But I saw that Marantz receivers are priced quite highly compared to Onkyo and Denon. I frankly didnt evaluate Marantz when I bought my Onkyo because it was way off-budget.

But I want to know if there's a serious quality improvement that justifies the price, or is it what I call the 'BOSE SYNDROME' - overcharging for the brand-name?

Err so basically any avr that does not have a denon branding is bright??? Every time that I have heard a marantz , I got a feeling that they have a nice warm sound signature.. Of course my ears could be defective or something... But when I look around the net every audiophile website I see states that marantz as a brand normally has a warm sound signature... I guess all their ears are defective too... Anyway the second point u make is that the op should not by the marantz becoz it's musical... Now I am wondering since when did is stop being a good thing for a avr to be musical??? It's the kind of situation where someone says something to u & u are not sure weather the person is insulting u or praising u :p ... Anyway u & the OP seem to be buddies & I am gonna take a wild guess here that he is not really gonna buy anything unless u say it's ok(not saying it is a bad thing)... So seems kind of stupid for me to give any more suggestions & try to justify my suggestions....

BTW the guy stating the bose syndrome... Seriously u are gonna compare marantz to Bose??? I seriously didn't realize marantz was such a mass market product that ppl bought blindly... Also as far as I know marantz avrs start at about 23-24k(which is also around the starting point of many other avrs) so I am wondering how come they are stated as overpriced.... The test for over priced products is very simple... Let's say u take the overpriced product which is priced at 50k... Take a 50k product from the company which u think is vfm & compare them side by side... Whichever product sounds better is vfm & whichever doesnt is not... Simple as that... Another example is to compare the amazon prices... The SR5007 is $200(Rs11k) costlier than the denon 2113 on amazon & in India the diff is about 9k... How exactly does that make marantz overpriced & not vfm??? Anyway anyone who followed the cinebels HT meet we had in mumbai last year would see in our reviews how badly the denon 1912 performed when it was compared to the yamaha v667 & the marantz 5006... Do a side by side comparison & decide for urself...

Dont own nor have heard the current lineup of marantz.
But previous models that i have heard, all the marantz outperformed denon and yamaha counterparts.

A little OT but its because of that thread I ended up with marantz 6006 instead of denon 2113. I love these meets even though I've never been to one. Thank you and all the other FMs who participate in such meets and post their honest opinions :)

Rajdeep,

Firstly, check my post carefully - nowhere am I comparing Marantz to Bose in terms of sound quality. Thats why I said 'syndrome'.

Secondly, I did a quick check on Amazon:

1) As you pointed out, Marantz 5007 costs $849, which is a good $200 higher than Denon 2113. $200 for the same or similar specs is quite a price differential dude, I'm not sure why you're saying it's not that different! Higher models go even higher in the price differential. Marantz 6007 is $1199. It's a 7.2 system, with 100W x 7. For $1199, on the Denon side, you can go to the 3313 which gives out 125W x 7.
2) Even a 50W x 7 NR 1603 from Marantz costs $649, which is equivalent in cost to the Denon 2113 which gives you 95W x 7.

I'm not even getting Onkyo into the picture here because they are heavily discounted.

I believe I can reasonably say at-least on paper Marantz are higher priced. You are right when you say you have to listen to the higher priced model and the VFM model side by side to determine whether the higher priced model is worth it. That's what I wanted to ask in this forum - IS MARANTZ WORTH THE DIFFERENCE? Is that high price is justified (do they deliver substantially higher quality) or is it an overcharge like Bose is my question.

I was just asking if they OVERCHARGE like Bose. I never implied they SOUND like Bose.
