Marantz DVDs are supposed to be very musical . Have used DV 7001 in the Past , very musical and the picture quality is superb . Lot of good reviews on Oppo DVD player too , personally not heard any Oppo , but the reviews say they are very good for music too. Some vote for Cambridge Audio .

and can now be bought at a not-so-expensive price point (second hand, of course)

you can add Oppo 980, CA DV99 hich are also good.
Denon past DVDp1930 was also very good.
