Which Receiver for Music: Movie Ratio 55:45

I have budget of 30k and i shortlisted this, i want something great for music and good for movie, need power as thinking of buying wharfdale 9.6

Pioneer VSX-1020
Yamaha RX-V567BL
Onkyo 608

Unless you plan to purchase directly from US using ebay GEB or SYW or similar sites all of these except the Yamaha fall in 40K range. I am not sure about the Yamaha one you have specified, you will need to check with the Yamaha AV Square near Ice Skating Rink
 
I have a Pioneer VSX-919, and am quite happy with it. This year's models (the 920 and 1020) should be equally good. Pioneer receivers give out very good sound, especially for music, after Marantz of course.

Really saying Dont buy this Onkyo itself they are dry dry dry and harsh center channel
i was really happy with marantz sr5200 my 5 year old amp

i was fed up with these onkyo and i went to one dealer and i was in verge of exchanging to lower end marantz sr4003(DTS) with my good midrange onkyo 606

i would strongly say that lower end marantz was better that my typical onkyo but i missed it
now i am in plan of used B&K avr307 from singapore for 50K this one is higher end model and new price of it is 1.7L

my advice for yu dont ever think of onkyo in your life
you budget is 30K Stretch your budget slightly get marantz 5004 or 5005

SR5005 Is the receiver for the future no need of ipod dock it has onboard USB
for music it has a onboard decoding and yu can just plug in one compatible USB and it has 3D passthrough

in foreign countries people consider marantz as mid higher model and onkyo 608 as entry level

Marantz is only Product where the price in US and India differ only to 3 to 4K

Marantz is cheaper in Singapore .

marantz SR5005 is only 31K in Singapore if yu have any body travelling to singapore just ask them to pick it up

my feeling advice dont buy this onkyo

Onkyo 608 is better than 606 as its THX certified & refined one.
Is B&K avr307 really better than Onkyo?Rev are OK-

Onkyo 608 has Burr Brown DAC i accept it is better that 606 but it is only THX Select plus two certified and not THX ultra certified

THX is just certification
THX select plus means it is good for room which 4-5 feet distance from the screen
and the user has quoted 55% for music ONKYO is really dry i confirmed it with many users in the globe and locally


in onkyo you wont get the music thrill and movie enthusiasm

Audition the speakers with onkyo and marantz yu ll know the difference

AND B&K AVR307 is a solid one they are high ends
Better that onkyo denon yamaha pioneer

B&K ARCAM are Super processors and power amp which each audiophiles would love to own
 
For US receivers, one will need a step down transformer (240 to 110V) which will add to cost. If importing from Singapore, will not be an issue.

For all International purchase, warranty will be void in India. SR5005 in Singapore is 31k (No Warranty) and Mumbai it is 37-38k in grey market. Why take trouble to get from singapore. It will weigh 10 kgs out of alloted 20 kgs and risk of getiing it safely and handle customs as 24k worth value of goods is free and on balance, duty is applicable. Again while duty caln, indian prices are considered and not singapore prices.
 
BTW, has subhadeepgayen picked the AVR yet?

In my opinion 608 has both goods a bads. But overall 608 will be a satisfying receiver for an average discerning user. Especially on movies. I don't think any similar priced AVRs has so much ability to create the wonderful movie experience. But of course because of his more usage on music he has to think more on other receivers offering better/richer music than 608.
