Hi all,

I have a combo of wharfedale 220 + marantz pm5005. I have placed these on sound foundations Opal stand. I wanted to know which sub should I add to the setup.

Or should I buy a DAC before the sub?

Regards

Hi

Depending on your budget, you should go for a sub which can deliver the lowest frequencies closer to 20hz.....

Check what is the lowest frequency which the 220s can deliver...accordingly audition subs and decide...

Possibly a DAC may make a difference in sound delivery and enhance the 220 experience....

I would pick the DAC first. Yours looks like a music setup where a good quality source improves the experience a lot. A sub is not really needed in a music setup.

Also, if you get a sub, how are you going to connect it? Your Marantz does not have a Sub Out I guess. Speaker Out?

Do you really need a sub? I mean why are you feeling that a sub is needed, the answer I guess could be obvious, the low end is lacking, is that it?
What is your source? If it is digital then a DAC definitely makes sense. A good DAC can actually make a lot of difference to the way you enjoy music.

The room and speaker placement will also have their bit to say on the final outcome of how it all sounds. Perhaps try different speaker placements and see how you feel.

At any rate my suggestion would be to try a decent DAC first and then look for a Sub.
