I'm planning to buy iPad and was considering iPad3. Wanted to check where would be the best place to buy this online and if it's worth the price. Most probably this will be gifted to a family member. Heard about iPad mini launch but not sure. Should I wait for it?

It would be primarily used for browsing, watching movies, listening to songs and occasionally to take pics.

Waiting for replies on this.

Is this a real requirement, i.e., or you a guy always on the move who need to be constantly in touch with office, work, latest news, etc.?

Or

Is this more of a fashion/style statement?

If the former, then go with a 3G model. You cannot go wrong with either iPad or Samsung. If it is the latter, then waste of money.

The upcoming Google Nexus 10 would be a killer tab.... ( i think the launch might be pretty soon )... the current 7 inch is by far the best among the cheapest tab out there .... If you can wait then probably Kindle Fire HD would be a good gift.

Google Nexus 7 - the TAB is a very good tab barring the absence of external memory slot...I have used it for several hours.. and it is a sweet piece tech... so my suggestion is do you or your family member need to use a lot of space...??

Thanks for all your inputs. Actually this is for my wife who isn't too much of a techie. With most of the android things whether mobile or tablet I found that there is a probability of it getting stuck or hung. I don't want to invest on something to which she will later not be happy about. I had lots of good things to hear about iPad. As mentioned I burnt my fingers last year with Spic 720 which I had to sell it off eventually. This time I need to go for the best. I was considering Google Nexus but need some sort of memory support coz we may dump movies etc.
Sarin do you have that Galaxy Nexus with you? Can I have a look?
Would appreciate if you can post a review.

Hehehe.. I Dont have it on me personally.. per say.. its what I work with amongst a dozen other tabs @ work.. ergo my several hrs experience with it.. If you are looking to checkout any particular issues with it.. I m happy to help you out with that

I remember you telling me that you were planning to get one for you. So I thought you own it.

Got iPad2 and Google Nexus 7 tab. Look and feel iPad, is umatched but after using both 7" and 10" screen size, I found out 7" are more suitable from tablet perspective. 10" ar bit large.

Also Nexus 7 got Jelly Bean which are say 80% to iOS fluidity. If you have anyone coming from US then grab one Nexus 7, coz at $199 its a steal.

Can you elaborate on that? Did you mean the fashion thing or the samsung as latter? ;)

He meant that if you want a tab, either apple or samsung, just to flaunt then it is a waste of money.

If you are always on the go, or want to enjoy reading from the Internet at home, skype etc, a tab is a great alternative. It is less tiring with a tab in a lap than a laptop to check mail, facebook, chat, read forums, carry a library, click pics, play small games, watch youtube etc.

Thanks for your view Audiodoc, I'm currently having second thoughts about going for this especially after I had a look a while ago. Will rethink about it.

Thanks Audiodoc. Obviously I knew that ;).

Samsung is VFM if you are considering the tab. But not sure of the dynamics post samsung loosing the legal battle. I guess they are clearing stocks and no more tabs coming on the way.

Samsung tabs are not that good in the vfm section... It's only coz ppl feel the Samsung brand name is stronger than the other brands manufacturing android tablets, so ppl prefer Samsung ... Intact my personal opinion is if u really want a good android tablet look at the nexus 7 in the 7in range & the Asus transformer prime with a dock in the 10in range... The Asus keyboard dock increases the battery life of the tablet by atleast 8-10 hours making it a total 18-20 hours... Plus typing on the dock is super easy & the trackpad is a good addon for surfing web pages... If the question is tablets in general then the obvious choice is the iPad... Nothing else even comes close...

Thanks for all of your suggestions!
Trying to check if this is available for EMI for 12 months. Only Sulekha has that offer. So will take some more time.

Ipad 3 is good but not worth nd has some serious battery heating issues.. i personally feel nexus 7 is best bang for the buck. Though not available in India (only available through Indiatimes Shopping) but it is a great tablet and the main thing vfm..

Could you tell me your major concerns of buying a tablet that will help you a lot of buying a new one..

I have the ipad3 and there are no battery heating issues. It is subtly warmer as well a heavier and thicker than the iPad 2 which I have too.

Among all tabs nothing comes near the iPad. I have an in hand experience of the Samsung, sony, asus, Motorola, acer.

I have no experience of the nexus though.

Thanks Audiodoc. More or less what I meant. It is not a question of Apple vs. Samsung vs.Google Nexus and which is better, more VFM, etc. A tablet can be a good gadget to show off and impress. But at 40k or more or thereabout, is a tablet going to really bring the money's worth?
