I will see 95% of time sd channel through tatasky dth and rest 5%, cricket in hd channel. I will be using my tv to watch only dvd-rips, no br-rip, and no hd content through usb. Is it better to buy 32 inch tv or 40 inch tv. Please guide me.

It depends on your budget either 32 or 40 and what type. And in particular size there are so many threads here, you will find easily whats best for you in 32inch or 40inch according to your budget.

Some questions:

a) What is the room size and your viewing distance?
b) What is your budget? (as asked above)

In my opinion, your CRT is good enough for your viewing needs. Remember that total viewing area of 29" 4:3 CRT TV is almost same as 32" 16:9 flat screen. Bigger size is definitely better but then it depends on the two Q's above.

40inches please............................32inches is really too small to enjoy proper viewing. Might have to stretch your budget a bit, but will not regret it later. Don;t have to go for a expensive model, even something basic or entry level will suffice.

a) My room size is 15*12 feet and my viewing distance is 9 feet.
b) I have not fixed my budget(but i am open to buy any tv either 32 inch or 40 inch).

Note: I have presently only 21 inch CRT not 29 inch CRT.

1. For your room size and viewing distance, 40" will be good. 32" is also OK but you may regret later why you went for the small size.

2. You will need to fix some budget at least - because just in 40" sizes, you will get TV starting from 40K to as high as 90K.

Assuming that you are OK with 50-70K, then I will recommend:

- From LED Stable (in the order of preference): Sony 40EX650, Samsung 5 Series
- From plasma array (in the order of preference): Panasonic 42UT50, Samsung 51E550 (~73k), Samsung 42E490 or Panasonic 42XT50 (3D models), Samsung 42E470 or Panasonic 42X50 (non-3D models)

Choose plasma only if you are OK with the drawbacks of the technology. But they will offer better PQ and VFM for equivalent LEDs.

buy a 40 incher if investing, otherwise your 21 inch is just cool.no need to replace.
models already mentioned by just4kix.....
demoing very important...
but with dvd rips, its better to have a 50 incher than a same priced 40 incher.
you can demo and then decide.

there are 50 inch semi hd plasmas at 54k range.....
but plasmas need little extra care, read about it to check whether you are open to it.

As you will be using it mostly with dth for viewing tv channels and cricket matches, i will suggest you to get a LED tv, plasma will result in image burn and you will also face problems with reflections, so fix your budget and get a 40inch LED TV.

For around 50k you can get samsung 40EH5000 or sony 40Ex430 and if budget is 60-64k then go for sony 40EX650

Since you watch only an occasional game of cricket in HD, why spend more on a full HD TV or a high end Smart TV? Go for a 40 inch screen only if you can get a viewing distance of 5 to 6 feet, otherwise stick to a 32 inch screen only.
