Why do ppl here have weird names?

What's in a name
Well, forum handles are the globally accepted system of being know on a forum.
Nothing wierd about it to my thinking. A name does not tell me any more about a person than a handle.
In fact a handle may, at times, say more about someone than the name

Why do FM have weird names as their user ID
I am curious to know the principle behind this.
Is there something in hiding your real name?

Most important which I have been asking and raising with the Mods is for everyone to mention a definite location (city name etc) and a Search feature made available which can show me the list of members under my location (City) when required. This helps new and existing members to reach out / socialise in person where / when possible ....most of us wait for What HiFi show or some big AV event to meet FMs ,,,,,this happens once / twice in a year and unfortunately all are not available...

Exactly! Totally agree on that.
Also on other forums when a product is reviewed below that theres an option to know which FM has it or which FM wants it or which FM had it.
I thought it was really handy.

Never once thought about this all these 11 years but now I'm regretting the opposite! i.e. I should've adopted an anonymous name so I could 'hide' behind such a handle lol!
