Will hi-fi die with the compact disc?

>>>All we have to do is buy original stuff be it digital files or audio cds

Unfortunately, not may people even understand what this means :(
Few months back, I had to argue and explain this (over email) to a music director from Hindi movies, who had uploaded a pirated version of his own songs on youtube!
It never occurred to him this this could harm him and the music industry in the long term.

A request to everyone on this group, "PLEASE buy the original stuff ONLY".

Thanks,
Sharad

Well buying CDs is fine as long as its available. But what does one do when the CD you are looking for is not available anywhere . Thats the case with most international music that I want. Nothing is available in India and I can't always afford importing CDs thru amazon.

Agree with you Sharad. I am glad my message was interpreted correctly.

I have a feeling a recording at 24/192 KHz will beat an analouge recording. For the sheer fact that the recording would be so much more at a granular level. Exactly what you call "Studio Quality" or "Master quality".

Digital recordings are not a curse, compression is.

Digital distribution is not a curse, sub-standard tools used for ripping, pirated sources, ill-configured encoders are.

Exactly RoC. Its too difficult to procure music here, and a costly affair too. Result? Piracy. MP3. FLAC.

The evil may change its face each time, but in the end the root cause remains the same. People are forced to accept a lot of low quality music, even as better quality is available.

Hi audiodelic,
I asked OPPO customer service which is the best unit for audio only.
And there answer was 980H. I also asked if in future they were planning a hi-end audio only player. There reply was as under.

For audio only player we suggest the 980H.

We are not going to make a dedicated audio player.

Hi,

Absolutely Agree with Ranjeet and Reign,I didn't want to comment thinking where it may lead to chaos !

Sure agreed that one has to support legal channel ! but its just that by trying to support legal if you get screwed to last extent ! then is it ok ?? and should we not complain ??

A disc costs 5$ in the US,The same is priced in India for Rs 799 (localy replicated !) and there's 100% difference in sound Quality between both ! but still one has to buy the substandard indian as the importing option either will cost more or not feasible for obvious reasons ! what do we do in this scenario ??

Also a legally bought CD contains copy-protection and says in the notice that this disc may not be playable in all players !! so what does one do if its not playing in his CDP ? throw it and not worry about the hard earned money used to buy that CD ??

Strictly speaking Piracy is done by every one !! the word's meaning implies to any one or any material used without permission or indulging in without proper legal license or rights !

So if you have seen most of the Cds bought from Amazon or CDHUT or any such online store ! the Cd says for use or sale only in the US/Canada ! now by shipping it to india is he not infringing the copyright and law ????

Also if you buy some indian stuff, nowadays they give a CDR disc instead of a punched Cd ! now I have a CDP that does not read CDR's ,I have bought the perfectly legal stuff yet not able to use it or return it !! who's responsible for that ??

What all this means ?? should we simply stop listening to music forever ?? Sure thats the apt for thread !! instead of saying will hifi die we can change it to will a listenership die !

So with all the above points I would summerise by saying its easier said then done !! though I have 1000 more points but I think this enough ;) !

Regards.

Hi,

I know there are reasons, but this is not really why people get and use the pirated stuff. Just think of it, there are many things (including audio hardware) that are either not available in India, or are very expensive, but no one goes stealing. With music, it is damm easy to do and not many are caught in the act.
To quote a famous US president of our times "I did it ... because I could."

Thanks,
Sharad

Hi,

Sharad I don't know who addressed in your post !! but if you posted comments on my post,Then I'll just try to clarify !

Yes there's 1000 hardware that is not available,as you say people don't steal no doubt ! but is it possible to do so ?? say if one could some how come up with technology to virtually send you a hardware (like in the Sci-Fi movies) then I can bet that you would've had countless number of people just doing that (meaning stealing the hardware ) ! so its just not the point !

Classic Example for hardware stealing I'll give you !! one has bought a DVD player and that does not play XX discs and what not ! now how many people have not used mod chips and hacks to overcome that problem ?? now what do you call that ?? offcourse the hardware might not have been literally stolen ! but once the company has decided to lock it for whatever reasons and we go and break it ! its plain stealing ! so...

Even in the software you have countless legal softwares that breaks copy protections ( which by the way is done to stop the very purpose),Now the one who makes these softwares and the one who sells, is not at all a bad person but the one who buys these softwares and copies using that very software will become the" ENEMY OF THE STATE ". What do you want call this ??

If Anumalik copies macarena or other its perfectly legal and if destiny's child copies kaliyonka chaman its creative licensee ! but I share a song with my friend Suddenly all guns are pointed at me !!

Am in no way supporting piracy or illegal stuff ! but what bout the issues raised by me ?? doesn't that warrant to anything ?? Is our hard earned (people work countless hours, sleepless nights just to fulfill their dreams) money not valuable ?? or is it so easy to just forget the cheating and daylight robbery that these record labels do with Us " The Consumers" ?? and say no no its ok for them do what they want but we as user of their product should not ask or raise any concerns !!

I as a legal buyer I will ask a company or anyone, everyone Please answer my questions and then ask Us to not take the easy route or whatever !!

As already said I can go on and on ! but thats not the point !!

Regards.
