Xtreamer Ultra Announcement

When would it be available in India? I am looking to buy this one.

Does anyone else have any link to anything similar. Which plays 1080p without any nudges.. I plan to use Windows Media Center 7 with the device. Looking to turn my existing PC into a Home Server.

Some one suggest..

Thanks.

^^Why not get a completely low-profile HTPC for the same amount bro? That way,it would be more powerful and fully equipped to bitstream even the best of the HD audio formats.

The best bet right now is AMD E-350 Fusion based mini itx boards from Gigabyte or MSI. Onboard Radeon 6310 graphics chip ensures excellent image quality and HD bitstreaming support coupled with silence and extremely low power consumption. There's an antec case - ISK310 that is an absolute perfect match with this board. The total cost of hardware would be

Fusion Board - Rs 8500
Antec ISK 310 Case with 150W psu - Rs 4500
Corsair 4GB DDR3 - Rs 2000
MCE Remote kit - Rs 1500
Hard drive 500GB - Rs 2500
Windows 7 Basic - Rs 3000

Total : Rs 22000 including OS, Rs 19000 excluding OS.

Why buy this overhyped, overpriced, underperforming xtreamer?

Very very good suggestion bro.....I have one query though:Will the proccy and Radeon card handle any bluray thrown at them?? Am asking this as i don't know the Fusion capabilities and have seen several dual cores and low end dedicated g-cards(like Nvidia 8400GS and the like) finding it hard to give a steady framerate with untouched blurays. The playback in FHD displays were extremely choppy with Hardware Acceleration enabled.

Yup the graphics chip has hardware acceleration for h.264/vc-1. You just need to use a player like MPC-HC or PowerDVD 10 which supports hardware acceleration.

It'll play anything you throw at it

MSI E350IA-E45 - AMD APU Fusion review

Here's a review.

PS: I'm replacing my gen 1 xtreamer with exactly that config this weekend. Just waiting for the case to arrive.

That looks nice! :)

This is a bit OT, but could you comment on how this configuration would perform as a Music PC, if I add an Asus Xonar Essence ST or STX to the mix?

I could not make out whether the ST or STX could actually be used with the MSI E350IA-E45 board, in the Antec ISK 310 Case.

I'm very much dumb with all things hardware, but after a bit of reading, I found that:

1) The Antec ISK 310 Case has one expansion slot, that can take a low-profile half-height card. A low profile card's physical dimensions are 36.07 x 119.91 mm.

2) The Essence STX is compatible with X1, X4, X8, X16 PCI Express slots. Its physical dimensions are 111.15 x 168.26mm.

3) The MSI E350IA-E45 board has one PCI Express x16 slot with x4 operation (PCI Express Bus SPEC V2.0 compliant).

From this, I assume that the Xonar Essence STX will fit on the MSI E350IA-E45 board. But will it fit in the Antec ISK 310 Case? If it will, will this configuration be good for a Music PC?

Thanks :)

Nope this case won't work with an Essence STX. I'd suggest you buy a micro atx board such as this.

ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Motherboards- ASUS E35M1-M PRO

Also you can add any mATX case to it such as one of the silverstone or lian li cases.

These have more expansion options.

A more expensive alternative would be a USB DAC such as the Dacmagic or something similar with the above config.

Cheers!

Thanks :) Will look at that option. I'd have loved the compact form factor of the Antec ISK 310, but I guess that is not going to happen.

I actually do have a DAC (Beresford Caiman) that will take USB and Digital inputs (both coax & optical). But I'm not sure if I will get good enough results from taking an input from the USB/Digital outs from the motherboard itself; I currently use a WDTV to play FLACs through the DAC (via Optical). Direct input from the MB may not be much of an improvement, I feel. That's why I was thinking of skipping the DAC altogether, and getting the Xonar STX.

The USB output shouldn't really be a problem but yes I'd not recommend using the coax/toslink outs of the board. You are better off with a device like the m2tech hiface to do conversion from usb/coax. The best I've found so far for coax out is the EMU 1212M soundcard.

If you get the m2tech, you may use the small form factor board.

That is an interesting device! But then again I will need to use the Caiman once I get the digital out (not that it is a bad thing).

I have a feeling the Xonar STX's analogue outs might do a better job than the Caiman. At least on paper, the Xonar STX seems to be better, from what I've read.

I think I will start with the bigger board you suggested, a Silverstone Cabinet (have got my eyes on one already, heh, heh) and the Xonar STX :)

Thanks for the reply. I need a really ultra low powered HTPC. What is the efficiency rating of the PSU of this case. I am ready to shell out 1-2k more in case I can get better PSU and nice sleek case. Don't need a very big case. something like a DTH box would do.

Thats the smallest sized computer case you'll get. That 150W PSU is from antec and is guaranteed to be atleast 80% efficient. The total power usage of the above system will be lower than the xtreamer ultra.

alright thanks a ton for the information.

any idea whether online would be cheaper or retail store for the items you mentioned. if online then please guide me to the right place.
