Hi,
I would like some help in chosing the right AVR,I have the Definitve Pro 800's and I currently am looking at a new Reciever.I have shortlisted the Yamaha 467 and Onkyo 508.Would like some advice on a which of the 2 would match with my speakers best.My budget is 24-27k.Any other Revievers around this price range also welcomed.

Thanks in Advance,
Lee Pereira

I have Onkyo 508, and it sounds very nice... It's a 7.1 AVR, compared to the Yamaha 467. It can decode all the latest formats... pretty nice at the price range...

Also as per savoy 467's availabality is an issue.

Also have a specs to specs comparision..does yamaha and onkyo upcoverts and upscales low quality video 480i/p to 1080 p? ( and are you looking for this feature?)

No im not really lookin for that feature of upscaling,But yes the 467's availability is an issue.Ive got a 5.1 speaker set and the Yamaha is 105x5 @8ohms I believe while the Onkyo is 160x7 @6ohms.Would be nice if some one please explain the Difference in the Impendence. Also Sandeep how much does the Denon 1311 you got cost? Thanks

The Onkyo 508 does not upscale... both yamaha and Onkyo support speakers at 6 and 8 ohms (at different wattages ofcourse)... The Denon 1311 is around 24-25ks at ProFX, with free headphones.
BTW, what speakers are u planning to connect?

Hi Lee,

I struck a deal with Grihavaibhav here in Bangalore for 20k....http://www.hifivision.com/images/smilies/yahoo.gif

Even I'm stuck in a similar dilemma. Have to choose between Denon 1311 / Yamaha 467 / Onkyo 508. Need some advice. No speakers decided yet though Mission Mv 8 in mind.

Also Rahul,Can you please tell me when your Onkyo switches to 5.1 decoding do you see some kind of Diagram showing 5.1 output or a 5.1 speaker pic on ur display ?Cause the pics I saw on the net show just the output"BD-DTS-MA" ,etc doesn't show the Channel Info. Thanks

Guys,

I have decided to go wid Onkyo 508, would hav liked to go for Denon 1611 but it is costing 5K more (i want the Audyssey feature).

But, need advice on choosing from the below speakers packages:

1) Jamo s406
2) Polk audio Tsi 300

Also, suggestion on which sub woofer to go for with the above configuration would be welcomed. I like deep n rich thumping bass.

My room size is 11 X 18 and my listening preference is 50/50 (Movies/Music).

Thanks,
Sunny

Hi Beanstalk,

Pick Receiver based on your Requirement. I picked Denon 1311 as i use it for 50%movie and 50%Music...
and trust me these 6ohm/110w - per channel is driving my Wharfy Vardus tower speakers like crazy...i feel is just perfect pair...

@ Sandeep: I went for an audition where it started off with some mission HT setup (that included mission FS and a vardus sub). HT was quite good but i was not satisfied with the music.

The second speakers were Vardus 300 i guess (since they had only 2 6"'er's) with vardus sub. I felt vardus were pretty good in comparison to mission even after removing the sub.

Lastly I went on to hear the 9.5's and they really blew me off. I thgt vardus were loud but 9.5's were clearly a notch apart.

The above two setups were played through Yam 465 while 9.5 thru Yam stereo amp. This has really confused me since 9.5 leave me without any budget for other speakers .
therefore if its 1311 - i would have skip 9.5 since it would not be able to fully utilize the 9.5's potential AFAIK bringing vardus back into the game and if its something more powerful then I might just go for 9.5
