Good Evening folks!

The dealer just delivered my gorgeous setup and I am in the process of unpacking and installing. This being my first introduction to hifi setups I am a bit overwhelmed. Frankly speaking I hadn't expected the AVR and the speakers to look so good :) Yeah yeah...I can imagine the experienced folks here suppressing a smile !

My first impression of the Pioneer speakers- well I knew they were BIG but I didn't know they would be huge. Even the bookshelves are dwarfing the AVR, but then I am not complaining!

I am taking pictures and would be updating this thread as time goes. I dont think I would be able to sleep tonight till the time I get these beauties up and running.

Lastly here is a heartfelt thanks to this forum and the ever helpful members here who pointed me in the right direction. I owe my journey to you guys.

Cheers !

Heartfelt Congratulations Mav, feels good to have ones hard work pay off. Enjoy your set-up & do keep us posted on your experience. Await the pics :D

Best Wishes :)

Thanks denom, naimesh and spiro :)

Okay now please help me setting this thing up. I have made the connections for speakers. The sub-woofer I wd be connecting later as I dont have the wire for it. I seem to have connected all the speakers the right way as I can use the FM and I can hear the sound from all the 4 speakers. What I cant do is attach the PC to the AVR.

I have attached the HDMI out of the GT 430 to the HDMI in of the AVR and HDMI out of the AVR to the HDMI in of the monitor. The monitor is also connected to the GT 430 GPU by the DVI connector. What should I do next? Also the PC shows that there are no speakers present. How do I make the PC detect the Yamaha AVR?

SOS ! :)

Congratulations mav. For connecting the subwoofer to the avr, you can use ordinary RCA cable. In the PC you will need to change the audio device to HDMI.

congrats mav. In fact I just sent a PM to you that there has been no update from you :)
We would love to see the pics even when the stuff is not connected. Yamaha AVR and pioneer speakers sound their best when their pics are shared here.

PC will detect Yamaha AVR as display type in nvidia control panal. When I connected 667 to my PC at mitons house,I could see in ATI CP.

Same should be seen in nvidia.Your sound output in playback(audio) device as HDMI out. This way you should get both video & audio out.

Thanks Bro. You have a guiding light from the start. Owe you a beer :) Btw what do you mean change audio device to HDMI? You mean in the PC?

@olly: thanks mate !

@anm: yeah I too sent you a PM telling you abt this thread but apparently you beat me to it :) Pics are definitely on once I sort out the PC issue !

@ dlkanth: thanks mate !

@spirovious: Bro thats not working out. I still cant figure out how to play music from PC..

Guys the AVR is able to play music from the USB but I still cant figure out how to work it with the PC. The nvidia panel isnt detecting Yamaha AVR. Should I be changing settings on the PC?

I think you will need to specify the HDMI as default audio device under Volume Control Options. In your media player sometimes you may need to set the audio device.

Here are the pics folks.

The Pioneer 51 Floorstanders were BIG. Here they are still in the box.

The subwoofer,AVR and the 21 BS which is going to act as the surround speaker placed side by side for comparison.

The above three and at the far right is the monster centre speaker- almost double the size of the book shelf ones.

The $ 30 HDMI cable gifted by the dealer as his way of thanks for waiting longer than what was promised :)

Btw I finally sorted out the issue. Silly me had connected both DVI cable and HDMI to the PC and the PC was giving preference to DVI. Once I had that DVI cable removed the AVR seems to have married the PC. They are creating magic together ;)

The only thing remaining is connecting the subwoofer which I will do tomorrow when I get the cable. Another issue is going to be the placement of the centre speaker which is HUGE as you can see from the pics. I would have to go in for new furniture as the PC table doesn't have any space.

Oh here is a query- As the AVR and speakers are connected to PC and as the PC remains on throughout the day isnt it a good idea to use the 'Pure Direct' feature of the AVR so that I dont end up cooking the AVR? Also I guess the energy consumption would be considerably lower in that case as just the teo front speakers would be used in such a scenario. Whats your take?

Nice speaker setup. Congratulations. You can keep the avr in standby mode and passthrough the video to your monitor.
