Had a similar scare with my Yamaha A S501 last year, few days after buying it from Dubai. It had gone into protection mode. However, it was set right within 3-4 days by Yamaha’s third party service centre in Mayur Vihar, Delhi. Since then, it has been working like a charm, without CVT or any surge protector.

Now then it is just the right time to have a comparison between the Yamaha and Emotiva, things worked themselves out perfectly.
