does anybody have any experience with the yamaha ns-8390 floor stander, i am planning to use it with a sherwood avr (6502) with my lcd tv as a 2.0 system. Buying it used if the deal goes through (offer is 18k) any inputs on this is highly appreciated.
Thnx
Arun

I have NS7390 speakers from the same series. They are excellent speakers for their price. All frequencies are produced well enough. The only drawback they have is middle driver is used for a small frequency range. Intermodulation distortion occurs between all the three drivers from 1kHz to 2.5kHz. This causes a narrower sound stage and a small sweet point.

I believe NS8390 will have similar characteristics with more pronounced and lower bass. These however will produce overwhelming bass in a small room.
EDIT: 18k for used NS8390 pair appears too high. I paid Rs. 13500 for new NS7390 pair in 2002.

18k is for the speakers and the sherwood 6502 avr, i have not negotiated yet.....he is quoting a price of 7k for the speakers and around 10k for the avr.

I am not sure about the AVR, however speakers are very good for the price. I got my 7390 for 12k (new). 8390 was about 2K expensive. The price you have got is good enough.. Probably you could try to get Speakers only and get Yamaha 467 or even 367. If you are happy with the AVR, go for them.

i might ask the avr for 5k, i am sure in that price there is no harm done:D, if the seller agrees ofcourse

made the purchase for 15k, the speakers are like brand new and the avr is in very good condition too, am happy :)
