Western Classical Music

@pindranil sir,

Here is a different way of selecting music to listen to…..
The recordings done at the elbphilharmonie concert hall in Hamburg and their resident ndr orchestra. The venue is acoustically superb I am told by a musician friend of mine in Hamburg.

Indeed…the Bruckner 7th is superb and Alan Gilbert seems to be blossoming after his somewhat troubled days in New York…have to listen to all these albums…thanks for sharing…lots of eclectic music making

Troubled you say ? I thought Alan Gilbert made the NY ensemble finally live up to its expectations. But there may be trouble in the relationship. On the other hand Alan Gilbert has gone on record to say the ndr orchestra is quite delightful and dynamic and is quite smitten by them. All the best to him 👍

For all you Godfather fans such as I….some may not term it classical but I do. Hear it on headphones or a music system if you can.

Alpesh Chauhan - conductor

Any views/comments from you folk ?
Hi I had a season ticket at the CBSO when Alpesh was an assistant conductor there. I think I heard him do a Shostakovich symphony along with a concerto s a late night concert. A memorable concert I thought especially as it was an Indian budding maestro but Lahav Shani was even better with a devastating Shostakovich 10th with Baiba Skride in the 1st violin concerto, simply superb. This was pre Mirga days at the CBSO and I was based out of Milton Keynes building the assessment system for The Open University…such nostalgia…thank you for bringing this up…
Alpesh conducted a concert in Mumbai recently did he not?

Thanks for the reply. I believe he did conduct a concert at ncpa. Missed it and to be honest have missed all concerts there since october last. Hmmmm…..its time to get back in the local circuit.

once in a while you find Karajan as a worthy accompanist….and this is one of those moments….i do also believe his finest performances are on the works of Tchaikovsky, Sibelius, Nielsen, Smetana, Dvorak, etc. and the Berlin Philharmonic that he moulded sounds superb on such repertoire and he does a fine fine job, though he wouldnt be caught dead admitting to it 😂

Found an excellent Beethoven cycle of Mariss Jansons with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. Have been listening to it for week now in bits and pieces. Its on apple. Should be there on other platforms.

BR Klassik label. Recorded well. Fine performances. Really fine orchestra. Sounds as full and rich as the best of them.
Its now on my goto Beethoven cycles list.

I now filter my search on the orchestra rather than conductor and find some excellent performances.
Its about time we gave more credit and searches to orchestras rather than conductors. You end up finding real gems.

Superb stuff. Highly recommended.
"Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 in D Minor, S. 244 No. 2" which starts the album is something else.

Wagner has its own specialists. Conductors and Orchestras.

You could try the Klaus Tennstedt with London Plilharmonic and Wagner excerpts from Suntory Hall live. Truly wonderful.

Else Bavarian State Opera /Bavarian State Orchestra. Zubin Mehta was a long time principle music director at the Bavarian Opera, 7 years if I am not mistaken. He knows his Opera and Wagner.
