Hi friends,

I know this is wierd but I have a specific requirement of setting up a 3.1 (front left right and center) or 2.1 ch system. Is there any A/V receiver - for e.g. in yamaha or denon, which supports this kind of output?

I'm not wanting to go in for the typical 5.1 A/V receiver and hence looking for a smaller sizd receiver, if there is.

I have the speakers and the media source, its just the A/V receiver that I'm trying to finalize.

Neo.

I don't know of any 3.1 AVR unless you just do not connect the rear speakers in a 5.1 AVR. However there are a few Integrated amplifiers that support 2.1 - the Yamaha AS 500 for example.

Either 2.1 (or) 5.1. If u need 3.1, you need to buy 5.1 & use only 3.1. Disregard the surround channels.

There are stereo receivers 2.1. Check them from Onkyo from the below link if it suits your requirements.

neo999: If the source is 5.1 and you want to only use 3.1 then you will have no option but to get a 5.1 which will decode(process) the signal, and feed it to the connected speakers. Using a stereo amp is NOT the same.

You can look for a old Prologic Receiver. Earlier models used to have 3.1 options. I used to have a Pioneer Prologic amp with this feature. Don't recall the model No.

I am using HK3490, which is a stereo receiver. It offers dual sub-woofer connectivity. It also has Virtual Dolby Surround feature - plus 2 digital inputs (1 Opt + 1 Coax) for PCM output sources. I dont know whether the Virtual Dolby Surround feature meets your requirement. As far as I know, there is no other stereo receiver in the market that offers these features. I used to own a 1990 model JVC receiver that had provisions for stereo/5-channel/3-channel playback.

Thanks friends for your responses.

I'm thinking of going in for the yamaha yht 196 HTIB and not connect the surround speakers. Or go in for a dedicated yamaha av reciever.

Budget limit 20K INR.
