I am looking for a 2.1 setup to use with Yamaha RX-V473. Budget: 40K

Currently have the following in mind:

Polk Audio TSX220B / PSW 110

Sonodyne Genie 2 / Roar 108

I am planning the 'audition' round. ( I am not graduated to do 'audition', it would be just listening )

Any other combination you can suggest?

Thanks

Here are some more....Sonodyne Sonus 1501, Tannoy Mercury V1, PSB Aplha B1, Cambridge Audio S30/SX series All between 11 ~ 18K...

hey even i am considering a 3.1 system.
Are the sonodyne sonus 1501 good speakers?
i havent herd much about sonodyne but it seems value for money, but tgere are no reviews:sad:
btw i am also considering the sonus center with them.
please give a review of sonodyne.

I had been to Bose and ProFX yesterday. Bose did not impress me. Movie was OK, but I didnt like it for music.

Got to listen to Polk TSX220B, with and without the subwoofer PSW 110. Overall I liked the system. But on music track, the sub was barely working. Not sure if that is normal, but the salesman said it's normal and Sub won't be of much use in music. But I still feel it has to do with some settings in the AVR.

Then switched to the towers TSX330T. The same music track got a new life, without the sub. In movies, Sub added a lot of punch as expected. But still, even without the sub, it was pretty nice.

I am wondering if I can start with 2 floorstanders and add a sub later when pocket permits. Can Yamaha 475 with following spec drive these tower speakers?

Amplifier Section Channel 5.1
Rated Output Power (1kHz, 1ch driven) 115W (8ohms, 0.9% THD)
Rated Output Power (20Hz-20kHz, 2ch driven) 80W (8ohms, 0.09% THD)
Maximum Effective Output Power (1kHz, 1ch driven) (JEITA) 135W (6ohms, 10% THD)
Dynamic Power per Channel (8/6/4/2 ohms) -/110/130/160/W

I have a yamaha 473. Its a 5.1 system with paradigm fronts and a wharf center.
I listen to music on stereo mode at times, ie yamaha + paradigm which are really easy to drive.
Few weeks back i got a chance to pair my paradigms with a nad stereo. And as expected it made a world of a difference.

Conclusion: Avr's are good but nothing gr8 for a 2.1 setup, especially the 473 or im guessing similar avr's. Pls spend your money wisely..

Hi Lostincrowd

The Yamaha AVR has enough power to drive the TSx 330 towers. If these speakers appeal to you then go for it. If possible, you should take your AVR and hook the same up before taking a decision. ProFX gives a discount and you need to demand for it. 10% for sure.

There are other Towers available from Jamo, Wharfedale, Boston Acoustics etc which start from 20k onwards, you may want to check them before finalising.

It would be advisable to read the Owner's manual carefully to ensure you do the right settings to get the maximum out of your AVR for music and movies.

Decent subwoofers start from 24k onwards and when budget permits, you can add it later. You may want to consider the Boston Acoustics ASW 650 which is under 25k and is a performer subwoofer.

If you want satellite subwoofer systems, you may want to consider the following which are true performers and value for money.

Boston Acoustics A 2310HTS Home Theater Speaker Package

Boston Acoustics SoundWare XS 5.1

Fortunately in Bangalore there are a lot of Home Theatre dealers and you can demo and check for the best price....end of the day it is what appeals to you in performance and budget.

I understand that. My intention is to build a 5.1 over a period of time. I have a choice of AV receiver and a 5.1 package, but the music output from the 5.1 package didnt impress me in general. I am talking about Onkyo HTiBs likes.

I dont have a fat wallet to go for a full system now.

Thank you.

Wharfedale 10.4 starts at 46K  I'll check Jamo. Also heard about Pioneer SP-FS52 towers. Anyone has any experience with it?

That being the case, get yourself a pair of towers or a good BS. With towers you might not miss a sub in music and with good quality BS will give you a good upgrade path.
Kef q300 or psb b5 are the standouts for me as far as BS goes. Else a few days back i saw a pair of wharf 10.5 in the sales forum. New towers which perform well might not suit your budget.

Since you are in Bangalore, you can audition them at DNI.

Thank you. I visited DNI last weekend and got a chance to listen to the Poneer. Honestly, it did not impress me much. I was expecting a bit more refinement.
May be I am expecting too much from a 20K FS pair. :)

Looks like I am going in FS+Sub combination as suggested by fellow members.

Till now, the most I liked was Wharfedale 10.6 towers, but it's way out of my budget.

Wharfedale Linton Heritage Speakers in Red Mahogany finish at a Special Offer Price. BUY now before the price increase.
