One of my friends is looking for a stereo to connect to his TV for music shows. His ask is simple use the HDMI ARC of his smart TV OR Optical out to connect to a 2 channel amp which he can connect to his FS speakers. these are DIY and go down to 50 hz and need only 30-40 W
he would also want it to listen to steaming music from his phone

What are the options around 50K for this ..WiiM was one option but are there any other good ones you can suggest ?

What's the difference between HDMI Arc and optical 💿 out? In terms of sound quality

Arj sir.. an AVR, especially an older version usually has optical in. Some of them are good for two channel listening 🎧 too
They dont have streaming and why buy 5 channel when you can get 2 :) they look big as well
At this point WiiM looks like the only option. Others are more expensive

The Marantz NR1200 was available around the 55k mark some time back. Online price higher now. Its discontinued so any leftover stock should be available around the older price. Two channel plus basic streaming with HDMI

Thanks ! Have you tried the new Fozi stuff..are they really good or good for their price only ?

I'd tried the Fosi DAC (HDMI) with a TV. Some general bugginess in TV connectivity. Not bad but not fully seamless. Sound was fine for TV. Better than a Wiim Pro

Fosi amp I've only tried in a desktop setup. Pretty good there for the size

Headphone zone has a few SMSL amps. Most of them have optical in. This seems to have HDMI. Costs 10K lesser than Wiim amp.
Regarding FOSI or most of Chi fi... Their wattage is overrated and has slightly higher channel cross talk... But are good enough when operated at lower volume. I have used SMSL in past (in use for 5 years) and Douk audio amps (100$) for more more than a year now. They sound brilliant at low to moderate volumes. the distortion evidently shows up when pushed above 80% levels.

At 50K budget, I might be tempted to go for older gen 5.1 AVR which has room correction as well as enough muscle to drive the stereo.

I think the link is incorrect. This should be the one: https://www.headphonezone.in/products/s-m-s-l-ao300

Fosi Audio MC331. This can be used as streaming amplifier. This has input tube stage for just a hint of tube warmth. Is also Class D based. I have heard this amplifier couple of times. Has a good warm sound signature.

He wants streaming option
1. Streaming ( spotify primarily)
2. HDMI ARC ( maybe optical only if there is no HDMI) but then will lose volume control option.
3. Amplification of at least 20W
4. Remote control
Dont see anything other than the WiiM..if 2. can be compromised there there are more.

True. If smart TV is there, Spotify can be streamed from TV, right? Why pay extra for streaming?

I totally agree that Wiim entry level streaming amp fits the budget. But I would stick to 30K budget with chi fi amps if streaming can be taken care by TV. Else, it would better to move to Wiim ultra or Marantz Model M1 as a potential candidate at 75-85K budget as I get better headroom and DAC chips as well as equalization options.

Now that there is some relaxation on duties, I see Amazon having douk audio gears along with fosi. These are huge VFM if one is not pursuing higher fidelity.

1. https://hifimart.com/product/marantz-pm6007-integrated-amplifier/

2. https://www.theaudiostore.in/products/smsl-raw-ha1-desktop-dac-headphone-amplifier-speaker-amplifier

3. https://www.cinebels.com/wiim-wiim-ultra?search_text=wiim#

4. Separates

This option leaves 10% budget for cables and a power supply.

Note: No first hand experience with any of these amps. I had shortlisted PM6006 a few years ago purely based on reviews, but dropped the plan later
