Hi,
I am thinking of building a DIY 2 way small, low budget at the same time high sensitivity bookshelf. I like to build it with locally available parts. This is going to be my first DIY speaker project. Please suggest me a good design as well as your guidance.

Thanks
Badri

i dont have any idea abt diy speakers and crossovers, however i understand that building speakers with peerless drivers and tweeters will be best option for you. I think they are priced very reasonably and offer good value for money.

DIY experts forum can give you ideas abt design and the crossovers.

A two way bookshelf is a good way to start the DIY journey. Check out our FM's website diyaudiocart. You will find everything here.

Selecting the drivers and designing a crossover for them is a critical task. You'd have to read the frequency response curves, impedance curves to find an optimal crossover point. Following this would require you to design a filter, which is the actual circuit.
Unless you plan to go for ready made crossovers.

Once you have the drivers in place, you would need to work on the box (cabinet) and find a optimal volume for your low-mid frequency driver. Use WinISD or BassBoxPro or by any other means to find the right box (vented or sealed or whatever).

You'd find many people on this forum to help you out, just shoot whatever you may want to ask.

Cheers!

actually, you have it a bit backward.

you model the cabinet first; and then the baffle (Front panel). once you have the baffle you can model the crossovers using the impedance curves and the frequency response curves (preferably measured "in cabinet"). and then the final, measure-listen-tweak iterative process.

have fun.

all the best.

@ Somak,
Point Noted.
I would like to withdraw my suggestion;
Like I said, I was never a DIYer & hence I should not be 'suggesting'
I apologize.
Kindly ignore my comments..& suggestions.

I think a low budget bookshelf speaker takes the ribbon tweeters off the table.

I suggest stick to Peerless. I used the 6" paper cone S16NI's with TL25SN's to make a bookshelf last month. it turned out to be phenomenal!
The 5.25" speakers are well worth the price.

I think Badri has changed his plan, he is going for a full ranger (Frugal Horn with Alpair 7.3). I am building a pair for him and myself, the work has already started.

Will start a new thread for that and keep posted the updates. I got permission from Dave (Planet 10) to introduce the flat pack for Frugal Horn.

Thanks,
Bibin

Great going Bibin, please keep us posted with the build. Any specific link on the build on net will also be helpful as on google I get so many links.

Thanks

fh3????????????

fh3????????????

Yes Frugal Horn 3. Initially I thought of building a 2 way speaker and later I decided try FR in combination with Class A amp that either be Tube or SS. At this momentum I am leaning towards FH3 for which Bipin has already started, I thank Bipin who readily accepted my request to do a build for me and then thinking of building a F5 or Le Monstre. Thanks guys.
