3 way 6ohm speakers under 40k

I was lucky to spot this post and picked them up.

Instead of OLX, Keep an eye on Facebook Marketplace. Sansui, Technics, Sony, Philips vintages keep coming up for sale.

Yes, came across this post, with a delay of couple of days and lost it.

They sound awesome. Need some love, but there are so many fun things that are possible.

Spoke to Mr. Mark yesterday. He had only 4 models ready. V3 is entry level 3.5 way floor stander 120W costing 30k.

I gave specs of wharfedale diamond 9.6 which I had used personally. Mark quoted an approx price of 80k to match closer to that. He is using his own branded drivers.
Instead of wharfedale 9.6, you can opt for BBC style monitor.... 12 inch bass, 6.5 inch Mid and 1 inch silk done tweeter.... These are more effective for music.

You can try a full blown 3 way speakers from Audio Craft Chennai. Last year when I was in Bangalore and purchased a pre-owned Harbeth my roommate purchased a new 3-way from Audio Craft Chennai. Mr Mark who is owner and designer there is very passionate about audio. Till I left Bangalore, my roommate had it and still now uses it. It has 12 inch bass, 6.5 inch miss with phase plug and silk done tweeter. The speakers were fatigue free and we had many long listening sessions. Its price was within what you have mentioned as you budget. If you want to talk to Mr. Mark, I can make his number available to you. The products from some home grown manufacturers match the international brands costing more than 5x in quality and you have the option to tune music as per your preference.

I don't have any commercial link to the said manufacturer and suggested the same to you as it would be very difficult on your part to find 3 way in the budget you have mentioned.
I am also contemplating of building a speaker system with low budget in 2-3 months. Please DM me the contact number of Mr. Mark. Thank you in advance.

Fyi, Mark may not be low budget as you think. His entry level offering starts at 30k
Mr Mark takes up a lot of projects both for home segment and commercial installations. His products are for quality as well as value for money in terms of cost proposition. His speaker + amplifier though available at reasonable price can be comparable to anything around 3x price bracket in the market. You will not be unhappy with his products. From what I have heard from my friend, Mr Mark is designing something in the line of ATC SCM100 ASL for him and has quoted him 90k for it. ATC SCM100 ASL is around 10 lacs in the market. So assuming he can achieve around 80% of it, still the end product will carry a lot of value.

I dont have anything personal against Mr. Mark, my point was affordability. Since I didnt dealt with Mr. Mark, cant comment on quality or VFM. My focus is on affordability and looking for something above 3 way Sony box type 6ohm speaker 3feet. I gave him the spec of wharfedale diamond 9.6 and he made a rough quote of around 80k which is high. His entry level floor stander with 6inch woofer is 30k. A pair of polk audio floor stander comes at 36k. Imo, its unfortunate the cost of passive speakers have gone up tremendously in the last decade when the technology remains same inside. On the down side 6inch woofer became the norm instead of 8 or above inch. Mid range is silently forgotten, but configured as full range in AVR. 18inch MDH became the norm instead of 3 feet wooden box. The used speaker market place is flooded with cheap imports diverted through bangladesh to avoid customs but sold at a hefty premium. Sad state.

In dealing with boutique audio manufacturers, you get more value when you give him specification similar to a higher prices product and develop something similar.
If you happen to read threads about cloning a speaker, a famous model is always selected and you aim to achieve something around 70% of that.
There will not be much benefit when you look to have a cheap mass produced brand speaker developed through a boutique audio manufacturer.
I have already given you the example of ATC SCM100 ASL.

I agree. But wharfedale 9.6 is not a cheap product. Bottom line is there is a clear vaccum of affordable 3 way passive speakers(20k to 40k range) in the market. Again affordability is a relative term.

See a boutique audio manufacturer will always charge you for components/parts + labour. In case of building a speaker, it will be speakers+crossover components+ other components+cabinet+Designer's charges. For cabinet mostly it will be outsourced. So if you choose your speaker components judiciously, you tend to gain more out of this deal. Also you have the luxury to get the speakers tweaked as per your liking.
This is just a path. Whether you are willing to take this path or not depends on you.

That was my intent too. But in this case, I didnt get a choice to choose my driver or spec. My choice was to have a AMT coil (tweeter), 4inch mid range and a 8intch bass and radiator. I'm new to this whole thing and thats why Im reluctant to do it even though I have a shop who can assemble the parts properly.
For cross over:

Did you came across any design with bass radiator in DIY case ?

To be honest with you, these kind of network boards won't work well. Crossover is supposed to be heart is a speaker and lot depends on how well it is designed. Lot more things go into designing a crossover.
Designing a good 2 way is cheaper than designing any 3 way. One has luxury to have quality parts in terms of speaker or tweeter as well as crossover components since component counts in crossover of 2 way is less with first order crossovers.

My choice was to have a AMT coil (tweeter), 4inch mid range and a 8intch bass and radiator.
I personally have never liked AMT. For me they are not for a system where you want to have long listening session. For me it has always been silk dome tweeter.
For a 3way system I will always opt for 12 inc for Bass--- 4 or 5 inch for mids and a silk dome.
If I am on a tight budget, I will choose a 2 way with 8 inch and polymide diaphragm 1 inch compression driver with aluminium horn and a simple first order crossover.
Advantage of this kind of 2 way is that once you get funds to have a better system in place, you can always use this system as a bedroom system.
So take a call accordingly.

Hi. I came across polk T50 pair for 26k. Is it a good buy over yamaha NS 8390? My preference is music in yamaha 379 AVR. Need to confirm this today as the shipment is ready to courier. Polk T50 is 2 way with bass radiator (no bass port) with 6inch bass driver where as yamaha NS 8390 is 3 way with front bass port and 8inch bass driver. Unfortunately, could not audition both of them, even though my heart longs for 3way
