Re: 300 B Amplifier and Advanced TL floor standers
The past year and a half was a breath taking journey of learning and experiencing with various drivers, crossover topologies, transfer functions, phase errors, phase shifts, phase margins and what not. So now i was again back to theory brushing up my basics and again trying to implement what i learnt.
The major breakthrough was achieved last week, when i could finally design my first order crossover with zero phase shift or with zero phase error. I was amazed at the sound stage and am first time listening to my own completely phase coherent speaker system with my advance TL It took me quite some time to put the right components in place and where to put them to achieve this. My earlier version of speaker was having a phase shift of around 18 deg between woofer and tweeter phase. Though an average or even an experienced listener cannot notice this during his subjective evaluation (because he would not have been exposed to a phase coherent speaker).
In the current years Whatshifi show 2016, I will just be listening to only one thing in the speakers - How much phase coherence does the speaker system have. Period.
for a first order crossover there is a zero deg phase shift due to cancellation of the leading and lagging phase shift caused by inductors and capactiors. Other orders like 2nd, 3rd and 4th order can be phase coherent only if implemented correctly in crossover. Will carry my own music for comparison.
For all my future designs my major design goal will be phase coherence as nothing else even come close. The trick is to measure and simulate the design and get them correct by iteration. Will post my simulated and measured results later.
Stay Tuned.
