4k Blurays coming in 2015

4K Blu-ray Confirmed, Coming in Late 2015

Bluray capacity is going to be same, there is change in the way video is written

Now the biggest questions is, will a firmware upgrade help existing blu-ray players read 4k discs

At what resolutions will it be the last upgrade? :)

I am sure they will not support because of two reasons
1. Higher gpu / memory requirement for handling 4K which may not be just workable with a simple firmware upgrade
2. If the HDMI out is not high speed / certified it may not support 4K resulting in bottleneck.

If you have invested in a costly BDP at present please research its specs for better understanding but if you are using an inexpensive BDP < 10K then you would be better off upgrading to a new contemporary 4 BDP when you would be spending tons anyway upgrading your TV / Projector.

Also I believe manufacturers will try to sell newer devices and hence will also have limited intentions to bring support to old devices.

By the way for your info, by 2016 - 2017, manufacturers would try to push for 8K setup so you will not be in peace for long upgrading to 4K. In my opinion it is better to have a stable resolution first like 1080p which will stay in market for some time before we can think of upgrading.

Hi Haisaikat

I am not much into HT and don't even have a blu ray player

Just posted the news for the benefit of other FM's

But its very true what you have written about all the companies having an opportunity to sell a completely new device, so they are not going to bother to get an upgrade for old players even if there was a hint of possibility

That is the common intention of all of us here so no worries :) I posted as a mere point of view of mine :)
