7.1 set up or 5.1.2 set up

Hello friends,

I have denon x3300 and have set up it in 5.1.

My room set up has one open wall. I want to utilise all 7 amplifier of AVR but due to open space on one side, I am not able to set up 7.1 set up.

So I thought to set up two in ceiling speaker to have 5.1.2 Atmos set up. But while googling I found that 5.1.2 set up is not that good as compared to 5.1.2.2.

Right now I am confused to go for 5.1.2 set up or 7.1 with some temporary arrangement. (with speaker stand)

In 5.1.2 you are covering horizontal as well as vertical plan also. This will give you true 3 diamential sound field. In 7.1 you are just covering horizontal plan . Dolby Atmos speakers works more prominently than surround back. With dipole or bipole speakers you can compensate the need of surround back speakers but for 3 D sound effects you need atmos speakers only.
