Hi All

I am planning to build a home theater room in my new house.

It is a 15x12 Room and I want to initially configure a 5.1.2 setup with provision for 7.1.4 in the future.

My current plan is:
  • AVR: Denon x3800h
  • Speaker Set: Wharfedale dx3-hcp
  • TV: Sony Bravia 7 65"
  • In ceiling speakers: Wharfedale WCM-65
Here is a very rough floor plan:

Being in a tier 2 city (Mangalore), there aren't many local places to check out HT equipment.

But I will be going to Bangalore to attend a couple of concerts, so I thought of checking out some local places in the city to look for dealers who can help procure the equipment in good price and also advice if anything needs changing.

Are there any places/dealers recommended in bangalore where you've had a good experience?

Also feel free to share your suggestions to change in my plan.

Are you a DIY guy or somebody who doesn't mind delegating the work to a professional?

If you intend to DIY the installation (micro-manage) and want to mobilize the gears, I would suggest to stick hifimart over dealers from Bangalore. They have always offered better price over any brick and mortar dealers.Dealers are very useful when you put them in charge of project and are willing to pay them heartily.

I am assuming you are DIYer and have following inputs.
Simple suggestions:

1. Replace wharfedale system with proper bookshelf or floorstanders package like mission or q acoustics as your room is big enough for higher spl levels than what you get from satellite system. Mission package from hifimart is priced just 10K higher than the satellite system.

2. 5.1.4 is more than enough for your rooms depth as they are not deep enough to need additional back surrounds.

3. marantz avr if you are more into music. There is Anthem and JBL AVRs available in the market. For some reasons, my eye seems catch a lot of issues with denon (updates, HDMI).

Basic trouble triggering suggestions (deliberations needed with family):

If you want fall deeper in the rabbit hole, here are a few basic confusion points (most of them depends on your budget and usage). I am not bringing in room treatment into picture 😜

1. The room is wide and would allow you to go for 75 inches TV or even 150 inches screen + projector. Why not?😈

2. Subwoofer is huge x factor in HT experience. If you have budget, you should consider going for serious subwoofers and remove the Subwoofer offered as part of package.

3. Factor in budget for good speaker cables, stands or wall mount.

4. If it is a new house under construction, draw a separate power supply line and earthing from mains for this HT room. There are blogs available in the forum to know about the technicality of it.

5. Good rug for the floor.

6. Paints, furniture and furnishings, if it is a dedicated HT room.

If you want a serious HT room, please take help of a professional like @prateekatasniya . He has helped many FMs with their setup.
