A 999 $ dac fro PS audio

Hah! I've just been having a cynical rant about another product from this company on another thread!

For me, their site smells just too much of the marketing department, but then they would be far from the only ones to make that mistake. Am I being unfair to them?

Not sure Thad, but I have heard, used and and am using several of their power cords, IC's, speaker cables and power conditioners and am convinced that it is not all marketing especially in their power realted products and cables. Never heard any of their DAC's so not sure of this one.
Cheers,
Sid

I have heard PS Audio DigiLink III (Cullen stage 4 mod) at FM Tirthankar's house and I can tell you it is just AWESOME. One of the very best I ever heard(although very limited hi-end source I have heard). The kind of resolution it has is incredible.

As per the website, its available @ a discount for $695/-, instead of the $995/- MSRP

Distributor In India

Which product ?

I've used PS Audio power conditioners in the past. They did what they were supposed to well, although always on the expensive side. On the other hand, I have auditioned the pieces that Thad "ranted" about and on a purely acoustical level felt they were not up to the very best in action (the "transport" and DAC). Certainly I preferred the Aurender and it was on par with the Resolution Audio players that this particular dealer also had, all about in the same ballpark pricewise, which I hate to say was about the base level that was offered in this particular European audio store. The interface was absolutely excellent and the build quality of the units like that of a successful commercial company, very professional.
They really are an old and well regarded company - although I am with Thad on all the ridiculous marketing diatribe that seems to be in vogue. I am equally embarrassed by the utterly idiotic website of the source unit that I use currently, which is full of the most imaginative and sometimes amusing descriptions - but if one cuts through all that....the operation of the unit speaks for itself. I suppose sometimes one has to dismiss the marketing BS and focus on one's experience with the product.

I noticed that the company had been around for 23 years.

Vaguely techie terms, in marketing, though, without real backup, are a big turn off when I'm the potential customer. Of course, when trade secrets are concerned, it is understandable that a company doesn't publish the works, but I don't think that is the case here. On the other hand, I can also be taken in by what looks like a good scientific idea.

Nice to read your first-hand experience.

I believe that price is based on a trade-in.

I remembered that post when I looked at the review square_wave points to...
I bought mine for less using their direct trade-in pricing of $695 with any DAC trade-in. I actually bought a trade-in DAC new on Amazon for $15 because I didn't have a cheap beater to send them!

Any DAC tradein. Bit like a discount voucher, so not too onerous, but heck, looks like much of what they receive might be throw-away stuff to them, so why don't they just reduce the price?

Anyway, assuming the offer is still on, looks like its available for $695 plus a bit for that throw-away DAC. Still sounds like a good deal, although some hassle involved.
